10 Tips To Prevent Kidney Disease
1. Know your family history - genetics play a role
2. Get regular check-ups to monitor kidney function
3. Stay hydrated - dehydration can seriously damage kidneys
4. Limit NSAID use like ibuprofen - excessive amounts are harmful
5. Avoid smoking and limit alcohol to protect your kidneys
6. Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet rich in fruits/veggies
7. Control your blood pressure - uncontrolled hypertension is a major risk factor
8. Reduce stress through meditation, yoga, etc. Chronic stress harms the kidneys
9. Maintain normal cholesterol levels
10. Keep blood sugar in a normal range if you have diabetes
You have the power to prevent kidney disease. These tips come straight from my decades of experience treating kidney patients. I've witnessed the devastating effects of kidney failure firsthand - don't let it happen to you. Be proactive about your kidney health starting today!

My dear uncle died after a few miserable years on dialysis waiting for a transplant. It was heart breaking to see what he went through. He felt awful after dialysis and couldn't live without it. He said the machine took too many minerals and didn't compare to having a natural kidney. Glad to learn how to take care of our kidneys now. Thank you doctor. Happy to support your wonderful work.

My mother was diagnosed w/ kidney disease at age 70. I was her caregiver for 16yrs; the doctor said I extended her years because I took the time to educate myself. Her diagnosis was that her body parts were worn & aged as she got older. Cudos to u for saving someone's life!

Hi my brother just started dialysis 5 months ago. Can you please share with me how long you were on dialysis before you were able to get off? Also was it the vegetable diet that helped you recover and get off dialysis?

@mirondalaws2348 Hi I was on dialysis 2yrs and I only been doing plant based for about 7/8 months&my nephrologist said plant based is good for kidneys.Does your brother know his kidney function? It has to be 15% or below to be on dialysis. I'm not 100% but my numbers are holding steady.I will keep your brother in my prayers

Hello Dr. Frita I’m so glad you came on my phone this morning. I had surgery a month ago and a half ago ago. I had to take pain meds to manage my pain. I stopped taking all meds after about three weeks. Oxecodone, tramadol, meloxicam and. I stopped immediately when I realized my urine was way more frequent and I could barely hold it anymore. Also a little trickles out after I have finished a few seconds later. I’m visiting doctor this week again and will definitely talk to him about this. Thank you soooo much for your podcast. Very informative!!!

Hello Dr. Frita, thanks for this very enlightening video. I have polycystic kidney disease and recently I’ve noticed that my urine has a very bright neon yellow color which is darker in the mornings and lighter during the course of the day. Is this a sign of kidney failure or possibly something else? I would appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Thanks
