How To: Pressure Flip

Спорт

"How To" video number 14: The Pressure Flip
Pressure flips are a fun little trick. There are a ton of variations, heel, toe, hard, etc... but I am going to try my best to explain the good ol' fashion, regular pressure flip. Technically the board flips like an inward heelflip but essentially you're just jumping off your back foot and letting the board do its thing.
While making this video I realized that there really isn't much to a pressure flip. It's all in the back foot. Foot placement is key and learning how to properly apply the pressure and timing are very important.
Thank you for watching!
P.S. If you're reading this I am in the middle of filming a day (or two) in the life for my trip to Street League this weekend! So, look out for that soon, hopefully :D

Back in the days of tiny wheels and baggy JNCOs, I was the 'Pressure Flip King' in my crew. I could pressure flip into, and out of, almost any trick! The shitty thing is that excessive p-flips make your tail (or nose) look like Gumby's head. I knew big dudes that used to crack alot of decks landing stuff...I wrecked boards with pressure flips, and it was worth it!

Pressure flips are my ace in the hole so ima give some pointers he left out. The front foot is important, if you keep your left foot still you'll just end up doing a shuvit, move it out of the way after you scoop and you'll hurt yourself. In order to flip correctly you must remove the front foot as you're shuviting, also when you see grip tape land FRONT FOOT FIRST! If you land back foot first you'll go into mannie or tail slide and eat concrete

Great video man!! I appreciate the time you took to explain the trick in great detail . . whenever someone really explains how to do anything and breaks it down it always seems like a lightbulb goes off in my brain and I'll actually end up either landing the trick or coming a hell of a lot closer than I normally would have, it's all physics man . . sometimes I'll get caught up trying a certain trick and the reason I'm totally failing is so damn simple that it just gets overlooked. . I love constructive criticism from homies at the park becauase I can't watch myself try it obviously so a fresh perspective always seems to boost my confidence and put me on the right track . . love these kinds of videos!!

Your pressure flips are nice because the board flips slow. Imo the pressure flip looks cooler when it’s slow Also I learned when practicing this trick, it really helps to put your weight on the back foot! Btw I can do this really good when I’m standing off the board doin it one footed but when I actually try it my front foot is always in the way, so I don’t have this consistent

is it my board shape. im skating a 8.25 palace skateboard rn with indy trucks and orbs wheels. anywhere, & everytime i try the trick it does either a treflip or a 3 shuv. I tried keeping my feet together, far apart, in kickflip position, etc etc. i shift all my pressure to the ball of my foot and when i watch my clips back it looks like im doing almost everything like you said in the video. My wheel almost bites on the board, i scoop in instead of like popping and i jump forward if i was doing i a shuv. The board will NEVER do the pressure flip tho. A light scoop will make the board do a treflip and if i try to add more pressure in the ball of my foot or in the scoop the board will 3 shuv. it wont even wrap around like an impossible bc it jumps straight up to my front foot so its like in trying to catch an over exaggerated 3 shuv. i cant impossible either for the same reason. everytime i go to scoop in instead of popping like a normal trick the board will kick up to my front foot almost immediately and i catch a super fast 3 shuv or treflip

I tried this trick a while back and couldn't even form the trick and step off with my back foot with my board because my trucks were too loose.I would try it with my friends board who skates tight ass trucks and I could step off and do it so it was just a matter of learning it on his board but I sort of just gave up on it.Now I ride bones medium bushings for my bottom bushings and soft for my top ones with only top top washers and I still don't tighten my trucks that much so unless I use my friends boards again I'll ever learn this trick.Even if I were to tighten my own trucks to the max they would still bend too much to build that pressure to do the flip.I don't know though I might give this trick another try.

+Dixie Normas I learned them recently after years of skateboarding, and still can't do it every try...more like 7/10... my suggestion it's to learn bs 50-50 stalls on a small curb/ledge before, going almost at a perpendicular angle and then after a lot of practice you are going eventually to do it more straight like pro's do it...Ollieing up curbs in a backside motion helps too to improve the feeling of it.

King Barney yeah once i started recording the voiceover i realized that this trick is really hard to actually explain because it's all about the feel of it. all i basically say it put your foot here and push down but there are a lot of little subtleties to it. i didn't get it for a long time but after experimenting a lot it finally clicked. i've tried a few switch impossibles and i can get the rotation and land with one foot but i always turn my body weird

+King Barney Aaron Kyro does this thing where he does pressure flips with just one foot while standing next to his board in a lot of his videos. Try exactly that. It helped me a lot to understand this trick. It´s basically a little bit of a pop and scoop like you would so for a varial flip (with your big toe right on the edge of that pocket). If your board does a shuvit, you lift your back foot to early. Instead of lifting it up try to leave it on there for a litle split second more and give that edge of the board a little scoop with a turn of your foot. The part of your toes hanging off the edge of the board possibly even touches the ground in that moment. It´s really hard to describe. It´s like if you would pop down but instead of lifting your foot and let it pop up (that is what you are propably doing) leave your foot on there and scoop the very edge of the tail next to that toeside pocket backside and forward underneath te board. Basicaly, when you have finished that motion, your foot is standing on the ground. I think one of the hardest parts of that trick is bringing your back foot up over the board again, but all in all it is really easy once you understand how to do it....

You have to kinda follow through a bit more with your back foot. By doing that it will do the flip

No matter what pressure flip you do you MUST catch it with the front foot. Goofy skaters catch with the right and regular skaters catch with the left. Don't back foot catch or you'll do a unnecessary manual or tail slide.
