Got a race next week. Been watching lots of your videos. Rowing for New Orleans. MM2X. Switched my spot from bow last weekend- boat immediately set better with much more run. Me at stroke dropped our splits 12 seconds in 200m pieces. Today’s team practice was 6x 300mw/1min rest. First 300 simulate 1st 300m; 2nd,3rd,4th, 5th pieces simulate middle of race, 6th piece simulate last 300m. Convinced partner to abandon start/20 for start/5, settle to a 30. In first piece1:58 after got to speed. Next four pieces all at 1:58-2:02 after getting to speed. In last 200, 1st 100m 2:00 at 30, then took it to a 36spm for 1:53 split. (35 yrs as a bowman, Coach Jaugstetter put me at bow first day at Tulane in 1988, never left bow, never stroked a boat until last week). Tomorrow we’re gonna put it all together for a 1000m Time Trial. Thanks for your help.

Aram what high intensity erg workouts would you recommend for starting your base and further?

Aram, what about long distance races? Do they transform the training season structure in a profound way? How about masters rowing such distances? Are there any competitions in these long distance specialties in Europe?

Nice video. The low intensity base stuff takes time right? What do you recommend for masters that dont have much time to train because of kids and work?

The best solution is a time extender. These are difficult to get, though. To be serious: you can get a lot done with 3 sessions per week. What is more important than the number of sessions per week is the structured planning for a full year. In my experience, this is where athletes mess up the most, disregarding how many sessions per week they spend on doing ineffective stuff.
