Polishing english wheel anvils and main wheel from time to time becomes necessary. If you buy an english wheel and the wheels have flaws in them you may have the need to get them trued and polished sooner than later. By watching these two videos you will see several different ways of getting the anvils smooth before going to the polishing wheel.

I ended up using your main concept but without the mandrel since I don't really have the tools for that part. I found a rubberized wheel to put on the end of a drill and then used that to rotate each die at high speed in its mounting spot on the english wheel and then resurfaced the die with an orbital sander and 220 and then 320 sandpaper. It shapes steel like new. Thank you for your help.

Jere, I just finished (almost) my home built wheel and I have a set of horror fright anvils, this vid came at just the right time. One ? though, I always thought you were supposed to have dedicated buffs for the different colours of rouge.

Hello Alan: You are absolutely correct....good eye. If you noticed that was a brand new buffing wheel. I just wanted to see if the green rouge would make a difference. For the rest of the dies I used the new buffer for black rouge and switched to my old wheel that has been used with the green for polishing copper. Thanks for watching. Jere

Absolutely love your channel. I’ve bashed tin for many years, learned so many things from you . Could you possibly do a welding video? I’m so curious about your gas welding aluminum technique . Especially the teaser about how it takes a long time to finish the (end of) the weld. Many thanks and be well Joe

Jere Kirkpatrick Thanks jere Another thought was that you might do a short video just talking about your various experiences over time I’d love to hear about your time with Shelby, the Indy cars , dragon snake and all those great stories. And what brought you to blacksmithing , etc.. Don’t forget, we’re not getting any younger and whether you like it or not, your part of a legendary narrative;-)) Best wishes, Jb

@@papaloongie Thanks Jb. I mention some of the stuff I've done to give credence to the story I'm telling in the video, so people can see that I'm not just pulling this stuff out of thin air. I like making these videos so as to impart some of my knowledge and experience not to make it about me. I appreciate your comment but don't know that it would be accepted well if I made a video about my life. Thank you for your comment. Jere

Very useful video. Do you have any suggestions for how to avoid getting any flat spots on the anvils especially when using the belt sander? Thank you.

Hello Midnight: As long as the wheel is free to spin (as shown in the video) Flat spots should not be a problem. If you make a mandrel like the one I explain in the first video you will have no problem. Thanks for watching. Jere

Hi Joe: I am doing well and hope you and yours are staying safe as well. I have been extremely busy working around the property (not video material) and with the heat and smoke the last 4 weeks it's been not healthy to work outside. I will do a video on whats been happening around here when when things slow down. Thanks for your concern. Jere

@@jerekirkpatrick2092 I'm glad you have been well. How can anyone ever be bored? There is always so much to do, isn't there? Heat and smoke are a bad combo for sure. I've been as busy as health will allow so I can't complain. Thanks for the reply, Jere. Joe

Hi Kmc: Been quite busy around the property the last couple of months. Plus we have had heavy smoke and hot weather which kept us from going outside for a couple of weeks. Things are getting back to normal with the fires getting under control. I hope to get a video out in 2 or 3 weeks after I get caught up. I have 50 shovels to get to Montana and an aluminum body to weld up. Thanks. Jere
