@@RogerWakefieldhey brother, how does food pass through and out of a P-trap..? It just rises upwards with the water... lol, that seems like the most difficult process. Can you share another video with see-through piping, and demonstrate how the garbage disposal or food in general act once passing through a P-trap? Thanks!

I am a maintenance mechanic, not a plumber. I do residential and some commercial electrical/plumbing/appliance repair. I had a sink basket that was kicking my ass today. I could not get it to seal. After watching your video I realize I was not spreading the putty around the flange correctly. I knew you could use too much putty and it would interfere with the seal so I was only wraping it in the corner of the flange, not out toward the edges. In my defence, I am still learning and I have only had to do one or two stainer baskets. Thanks for your help, you made me a better plumber!

Last time I did my disposal I forgot to put the power cord in until after I'd attached the disposal, sure was fun getting the locking ring for the NM cable connector on. The idea behind putting the disposer directly into the T seems quite good to me, I will definitely do that in the future. Also god bless Roger for doing all this while wearing gloves, patience of a saint.

Hey Roger great channel you have!! I pipe mine almost exactly the same! Couple things I do a little bit differently I install the faucet and water lines before the garbage disposal so I don't have to fight getting behind the piping after the Garbage disposal is in place! other one is I get the garbage disposal mounted but I don't tighten the locking ring down until I get my drain assembly where I want it! And last but not least I fill each sink bowl at least halfway or better with water and let it go and check for any leaks! Again great channel you have here and your editing is great!! Keep up the good work in Texas! I'm over here in Missouri! Have a great summer!

Results: 1) Everything drains well 2) Nothing leaks (yet...) 3) It was a fun Saturday's worth of entertainment 4) No F-Bombs were expended 5) She Who Must Be Obeyed is somewhat impressed by my basic shop class competence ;)

Your the man Roger, ive watched lots of your videos. I swear that we were trained by the same plumber coming up. Ive started using a product called skin tight its blue on all my disposals, pop-ups, tub/shower drains etc. The good thing about this product is you can get it things loose if you ever have to take it apart again unlike pure silcone. I still use putty under the faucet. I have found the putty will break down and wash out over time. Food for though brother. Doesnt matter how long you have been plumbing you never stop learning, keep the video's coming..

Oh snap so that’s what that tool is for, I’m an apprentice hotel engineer and when they gave me my tool cart it had that basin wrench on it but nobody explained to me what it’s used for. The past couple months I’ve been tightening up those nuts on the under side the sink with an adjustable wrench and no wonder it was taking me forever. Well now I can save so much time on my work orders when the faucets come loose! Thanks Roger!

Master plumber for 29 years in Florida , I usually use a flanged tail piece ran horizontally off the disposal, I give it a slight amount of fall coming back to my tee to aide the food particles make it to the trap & prevent stoppages. Today a customer had pulled a 2 compartment sink 8” deep, & replaced it with an under mount 10” deep single compartment sink and they had a disposal. I had to use the 90 in that particular application & almost didn’t have enough room to get everything connected because of the sanitary tee inside the wall was roughed in unusually high for some reason. Anyways I got it done without opening the wall & customer was pleased at the end of the day so that’s all that really matters to me.

I didn't read the full instructions on dishwasher usage. 3x dishwasher backed up into itself. Until i realized, the disposal has a punchout for the dishwasher. The tube can be connected without punching that hole (which is what i did). Before 3 loads, then looked at instructions for the punch out.. *face palm* (i have many FP moments.. 😂)

WOW, U make this look so easy but for someone like Me that's never done plumbing before it's insane trying to figure it out cause my main ABS pipe is coming up from the floor middle ways & disposal too, I am the home owner and just didn't have the time to hire someone to come out and do it, I remodeled my kitchen with New countertop and New sink which is 9in deeper than the original one & before I start this I am gonna put everything on the back side cause that's the way it should be so thanks for saying it needs to be in the back instead of the front side and I was going to go straight out from the disposal but after watching your video I am gonna go back & put it going down, thank you so much for making this video I really appreciate it, you just made my Job easier

The only problem I had was the previous "plumber" ( I use this word lightly when referring to mine lol ) had the dishwasher drain hose connected to the pipe coming down from the other side of the sink from ware the disposal was and when I removed all the PVC pipes they were packed solid with crud and was a helluva mess to clean but ur video was excellently done and I couldn't of done it without ur help so I just wanted to thank u and lyk that I appreciated ur video. My girl was thrilled with me and her new disposal and the price I charged her lmao. Thanks again!

Quik tip, best to leave lok nut on the romex connector and use it as a jam nut, especially if you have to install the cord after the plumber has installed the disposal. That way you can stop the clamping screws in a direction where they are easy to access. Example, thread the body of the clamp only enough to have a good start, then using a screwdriver tap on lok nut lugs to tighten while holding clamping screws in the position where you want them.😎

This video provided a lot of useful information that I will use on my sink replacement. The one variance I have from the video is my sink is going from two drains to one drain. The single drain will have a garbage disposer and a dishwasher hooked to it. The single drain is on the right side of the sink. The outlet pipe in the wall is on the left side. The person who installed the sink has the bridge going straight out the disposer on the right to the basket drain on the left that has the P trap leading through the wall. Based on this video I need to have the pipe from the disposer angle down at 90 degrees first, then the p trap and from the p trap a bridge to the outlet on the left side. Am I correct? Did I even make sense? Sorry I am new to plumbing.

I see where your way of piping gives a little more ability to line up with the trap adapter also . I use a catch pan and tubular cutter made by Rigid to cut my lines ,, leaves them bur free,, and makes straight cuts ,, after all not a lot of space in the hubs I want as much contact as possible I also now only use the blue rubber washers ,, I’ve seen too many plastic ones break or bind then become loose again a few days later

In CO we use a straight waste arm on the disposal and have the tee connected to the drain side with the p trap right below it. This seems more complicated and less practical in tight or deep sink situations

I like to connect my supply lines to the faucet, then install faucet. I really like the tool that you can slide up on the supply lines (is hollow or slotted out)....it will tighten the nuts that hold the faucet to the sink, it replaces the basin wrench, and it is long enough it is below the bowls to tighten/loosen the large nuts (rigid makes the tool I have).

Nice video but you forgot about installing the fiber washer after installing the black rubber washer on the sink basket. Also, it is important to mention to make sure the wires of the disposal are properly matched and connected to the whip cord for electrical reasons polarity reasons. I believe the 2020 NEC (National Electrical Code) also requires that the disposal is connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet for safety reasons since you are dealing with water and electricity.

I wonder if it is ok to leave it and not connect to the disposal or if not, can the connection on the side be capped or should that section be replaced?

Roger I love your videos. I have a question. I’m trying to replace the drain pipes under a kitchen sink and having a hard time getting everything to line up. Il try to describe the piping. So I put a new basket strainer and then the new tailpiece that connects to the basket strainer, then the ptrap, the. The elbow that comes off of the back end of the ptrap. Then there is a 45 elbow to a straight piece of pipe then to a tailpiece that goes into the drain in the wall but that last tail piece is also at a 45. My problem is where that first 45 elbow comes in trying to get those two pipes to alight at a correct angle. This was how it was piped before and I’m just replacing it as it was leaking. Hope there’s some trick to knowing how long each piece needs to be so the angles align correctly? I remember in high school math class our teacher told us there’s a math formula for figure out plumbing angles.

my tip would be to add the old garbage disposal (assuming you have the old one) into the box of the new garage disposal as weight onto the topside of the sink to keep the strainer for moving. The snap ring is not that easy to put in when working with an actual kitchen cabinet - your not going to have that reach around per this video. The weight will keep the strainer from popping up prematurely. #2 tip the garbage disposal jam buster wrench to unclog the GB is actually used to lock the flange nut 16:01 fits in perfectly no need for channel locks or screw driver. #3 the plastic slip nut washers are junk wouldn't not recommend utilize rubber slip nut washers- good brand is oatey

Roger, what do I do if my disposal is on the right side, but the drain exits on the left side of the cabinet area (more closely aligned with the drain side of the sink? Will I have trouble with food collecting in the pipes?

Master plumber since 99, plumbing since 91 I put the tee on the basket strainer side. See how hard water is blown out of a running disposal? Like a pump sort of... yeah, I'm not worried about any solids in that horizontal. Any solids that sticky are gonna be a problem in the next horizontal or the base of a stack or a dang short turn fitting downstream. Tee under the strainer leaves more space for the customers junk. Is there ever stuff under the sink when you do a service call? Always right? And when drains, especially slip joint drain piping with long pieces ( lots of leverage ) are where all that junk goes... pieces get pushed around more, joints get loosened. I like to leave more room for their junk and less pipe in shorter pieces that are more difficult to loosen due to occassionally being knocked around by the detergent bottles. Not criticizing your style, these are just MY observations.

Great video. My garbage disposal is leaking and I don’t really use it. I’m thinking just take it out and make it look like the right side of the sink. Besides the white pipes what pieces will I need the basket strainer and such does that come in one piece let’s say at Lowe’s.

Roger, the one thing I could never understand is the fiber, or as I call them, cardboard washer on the basket strainer. I've always used them, but they go on after the rubber washer. What the heck is the use of having them. Again, I always put them on, just don't understand, what good are they? The rubber washer alone is going to seal. It's not like the fiber washer is rigid enough to keep the rubber washer flat or anything.

Thank you so much for helping me install a sink, disposal with dishwasher connection. I was so confused about the washers and how to connect a non threaded pipe to a threaded pipe. And why doesn't anything explain the 2 types of washers? I wish you'd explained them. My washer just slid around on my pipe. Come to find out, my Handyman Store sold me an old piping kit, the washers were dried out, they were hard with no "rubberiness". Could you dumb down just a wee bit for those of us who now find themselves financially tight and now need to make our own repairs? Thank you.

I'm new and confused about the sizing that the pipes have to be underneath sinks. Are kitchen sinks always 1-1/2 inch while restroom sinks are always 1-1/4 inch? Is every strainer the same size or are there different sizes? Sometimes the tailpiece is a different size than the rest of the tubing. Why is that?

Since my drain is on the right side of my duel sink and my disposal is on the left side I have to run my pvc pipe horizontally across and run my ptrap under the ride side of the sink. If my drain was on the left side I would have followed your recommendations.
