This is how to play Troggu, a trick taking tarot card game for 3 - 6 players. Troggu uses a traditional 78 card tarot deck. I suggest using the beautiful Fournier French Suited Tarot if you can find it.

Traditionally, when players wanna "pick it up", they say "Tapp" (because the kitty in the game is called "the Tapp").

The genuine 1JJ decks are wicked expensive ($26.00 new) and are a bit off size for playing; since these cards and the original Marseille cards are public domain, it would be awesome if somebody did a kickstarter with, say, 10K subscribers to put out play-friendly versions of these cards with a troggu book. This tutorial and Andrew's are great and would be a great starter for an instruction book. I bet it would be a big winner!

For scorekeeping in tarot games in general: even if you don't use money or even a placeholder token of any sort, you can still easily keep points as if you were. In Troggu, a regular win with the extra cards means all other players must "pay" you 10 points, so in a three-player game Amy (winner): +20 / Ben: -10 / Charlie: -10 is what the score would look like after the first round. Negative points might seem a bit odd, but it really doesn't change anything. If you win Solo, each player pays you 20 points instead. Let's assume Ben wins Solo in the 2nd round this time: Amy: 0 / Ben: +30 / Charlie: - 30 and so on. I think this is a cooler way of keeping score, as it is "zero sum game" this way, meaning every point gained by a player was a point lost by another player, just like if you were playing with money!

Nice game! It’s much easyer to play than the classic Tarok game that is played in our country. How are the kings valued if they are not captured by the same team?

Thank you for watching! Kings are the same value no matter who captures them. =)

@@riffleshuffleandroll oh I thought that the kings are valued 5 points if you capture all five of them. Now I rewatched and you said “5 points each” 😊 my bad.

Question: What is the rule for card value if you're playing a card that is neither trump nor of the same suite? Let's say the table of 5 has the following: 3 Heart - First card played of the round 4 Heart 5 Heart 6 Heart 10 Spade Player 5 was forced to play that 10 of Spade. Is it a losing card because it's not of the same suite? Or does it win since its numeric value trumps the others?

In your example, the highest card of the lead suit wins the trick. So, the 6 of Hearts wins the trick.

If you're already familiar with Königrufen, there is a two-player variant which I think is quite fun: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6nigrufen#Three-_and_two-player_variants
