Good information. I often still get confused by how to play and differentiate between trills, mordents, and returns. I often have to stop what I'm doing and look them up to play them properly.

Great Marina, I've learn't heaps from this vid, I've play guitar and bass for years ( reading as well ), I've always thought trilling with 4 and 5 on the R/H waste of time for me unless its something slow, no matter how hard I've worked on it, it never comes together.

It's pretty challenging to trill with 4-5, but sometimes the music requires it. 🥲

Thank you for pointing out that music performance should be governed by guidelines and not by rigid rules that should _never_ be modified. Composers & performer/teachers have often been guilty of not practicing what they preach regarding "thou shalt ..." 🙄.

I think people in academia forget that music is about feeling and sharing emotions. For me, guidelines are fine, but they shouldn't rule your musical life. I did what I had to do to pass exams and such, and of course, if I'm hired to play something, I will follow whatever I'm told to do - other than that, I play music how I want to. 😊

The most difficult trill is a really long one with the right hand and AT THE SAME TIME you have to keep playing whatever notes with the left hand.

I talk about that in this video - you have to take a comprehensive approach to technique. Watch the last 5 minutes or so for a more detailed answer.
