This is the best tutorial I’ve seen. It’s good to learn the basics since I never did exercises, but just picked up the kalimba and plucked keys at random. I loved your videos back then and I sill love them today. You are an amazing person and thank you for sharing! >^.^

Hi Sam, I love your video's! You've inspired me to want to learn how to play the kalimba. I'm waiting for my Kalimba to be delivered next week and I can't wait. I decided to buy the Hluru flat board 17 key kalimba. I tried the Lingting 17 flat board but the hard edges hurt my hands. I'm hoping the Hluru will be better for me. My moozica solid wood 17 key Kalimba ($44 from Amazon plus sales tax) arrived about 1 hour ago and following your tutorial, and using insTuner (it seems easier to use than PanoTuner) and the hammer I was able to tune it in about 30 minutes. I can tap out some tunes that I'll need to practice with using Metronome but it is nice to see the notes show up in tune while I play. This Kalimba came with a nice case, nicely finished solid wood, steel keys, a starter booklet, a hammer, a bag (guess the hammer isn't supposed to go in the case) and two of those thumb things you mentioned. THANKS!!!!!

Great video!!!! I play the piano so I have to keep my nails short, other than those finger picks you can buy, is it alright to use just the thumb?

Alternatively, you can use the hammerhead to press down or push up the tines. Knocking can be noisy esp towards the neighbors.

For me I don’t tune it again except for when I need to changed the notes like when I tune the b to b flat
