How To Play The Drum Beat From "Africa" by Toto

Музыка

Solid drum gold! And one of many classic grooves by the master, Jeff Porcaro.
The track also has percussion which adds so much to the character, but this is the core drum kit groove.
If you like these 16ths on the hi-hat, check out Porcaro's monster performance on Michael Mcdonald's "I Keep Forgetting", a masterclass in relaxed 16th note groove that still drives like crazy - • I keep forgetting - Mi...

Cool! Toto's one of the best bands in the 80's. Thanks for posting this Mike. As usual, this video is superb. Could you please do a few Tears for Fears iconic songs as well? Shout, Head Over Heels and Everybody Wants to Rule the World will be great in full tutorials. Thanks.

That’s actually in Kissing My Love by Bill Withers, not this one. This one doesn’t have swing, it’s totally straight 16ths the whole time.

@@vickiwhite8017 disagree. there are varying degrees of swing. when programming, drums, it's usually broken down as a percentage. Listen to rock drummers of the 60s, all play with swing as was the drumming tradition. Even Ringo swings his beats and fills. To varying degrees. Unquantized, there's swing, often called "feel" in addition to where on the beat, either a little late or early. Completely straight 16ths came about during the disco era - when drummers often play alternating 16ths on the hi-hat.
