    Thanks for the most logical instructions with chords on the piano. I learnt to play chords on a guitar more years ago than I would like to say, and could just pick up a guitar and play them without thinking, but recently purchased the Yamaha P515, and for the life of me, just couldn`t remember how to play the chords. I guess muscle memory came without much effort before. But watching this has given me more inspiration to press on, and have another bash. (not literally).

    If any of you had trouble understanding this video or missed a tiny detail, feel free to look through my notes, it should contain everything included in the video; with some additional things I wrote down. Notes: White - 7 (Letters of the Alphabet: C,D,E,F,G,A,B) Black - 5 = 12 Notes Sharp, Natural and Flat Symbols: # (♯) = Sharp ♮ = Natural b (♭) = Flat C Group: C,D,E F Group: F,G,A,B Each Black Note Has Two Names. 1. Sharp = Above (eg. Black Note to right of C is C Sharp) 2. Flat = Below (eg. Black note to left of D is D Flat) Intervals are two notes, or the distance between to notes. Order of Intervals by Wideness: minor 2nd - 2 Notes Inside. (eg. C+C#) Major 2nd - 2 Notes Inside. (eg. C+D) minor 3rd - 3 Notes Inside. (eg. C+D#) Major 3rd - 3 Notes Inside. (eg. C+E) Chords (or Triad) = 3 (or more) notes. Major Chord = Major 3rd + minor 3rd (eg. C+E+G = C Major) minor Chord = minor 3rd + Major 3rd (eg. C+D#+G= C Minor) Examples: F# Major Triad = F#+A#+C# A Major Chord = A+C#+E A Major Chord = A+C+E 3 Inversions of C Major Chord: C+E+G, E+G+C, G+C+E A chord progression is a group of chords. Example of Chord Progression: C, G, Am*, F *m = Minor Play Chords in Different Inversions for Smoother Sound. This is called Voice Leading. C Major G Major A minor F Major C ➘ G ➙ A F E ➘ B ➙ C ➚ A G D ➙ E ➚ C Underlined/Circled = Notes that are common with the next chord. (eg. C Major has a G, and G Major also has a G.) Figure out chords, draw out letters, circle common letters, draw arrows pointing. Rhythm is essentially the timing of all the notes that we have to play in a piece or scale. Rhythm Pattern: C G Am F 1,2,3,4 | 1,2,3,4 | 1,2,3,4 | 1,2,3,4 (Play chords in this rhythm while you hold down the root note of said chord.)

    Great set of notes detailing out everything, nice to be able to read it out as well as watching. One thing that confuses me about the chords though. For A major chord it has A + C + E. But between the A and the C there is only 2 notes, so wouldnt that make it a Minor? Also with the inversions of the Chords from the video he has 4 notes inbetween, particularly GCE, but is still called a Major? If anyone could make it clearer would be much appreciated.

    I’m a guitar player and I’ve just been figuring out chords by ear or playing a major and flattening the 3rd for minor and moving the shapes around. I didn’t think about re-working them with different inversions, and you just saved me a shitload of time and effort jumping around different shapes. Thanks!

    Daaaang I love this. I’ve played guitar 30 years and just now picking up piano ( like starting today). So glad I found this, it’s a huge jumpstart for me. I’ve tinkered with pianos enough in the past to know a few chords then use my know how to make the sounds I needed to make, but this really helps.

I very rarely get the "mind blown" effect - but this? the 3m/M+3M/m chords method made me memorize them all instantly, like a missing puzzle piece in my brain... I get that some people will go for the classical way but this is such an insane shortcut it doesn't even matter if your teacher would look down on in. Thanks so much!

    What a great explanation in such a short time. I am very musical and play 5 other instruments including the Anglo concertina, but my piano teacher in gr. 8 slapped me on my fingers with a stick because I could not read sheet music! (Which I still cannot do but I produce instrumental arrangements for local TV.) She put me off from piano for the rest of my life. If anyone could just explain the chords like you did in under 10 minutes to me instead of wacking me on my fingers, I could have been a pianist a long time ago. Thank you, you have a gift. You speak my language and do not require that I first have to struggle through learning sheet music to understand piano. You put me back behind my keyboard in 7 minutes. God bless!!

I now already chords but I actually never thought in the way it is explained over here ( I did not go to school of course ) . really simple and now it makes much more easier for me to understand what actually i am playing instead of guessing.     I can read and play intermediate level sheet music. I just memorized major and minor scales but never really understood them. This is the first video that gave me some basic understanding of major and minor chords.

    I just thought all majours were the 3 white keys and always thought why D sounded off as a majour. Your explanation of 3 NOTES THEN 2 NOTES for majours and Minors exolained it in 2mins! I actually figured out songs where i knew the guitar chords! BEAUTIFUL!!! LEARNT MAJORS, MINORS AND INVERSION IN 1 VIDEO! Thank you so much!
