    Lovely video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Possessing Piano Remedy (search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to play the piano easily minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend Sam at very last got astronomical success with it.

    We bought a digital piano for Christmas and while my daughter will be taking private lessons, I’ve decided to learn online. Your lessons stand out over others I’ve watched for several reasons. First, you get right to it. In just a few minutes you’ve given us 5 practical exercises that I can see and hear will be absolutely fundamental. Second, your videos are well produced, your delivery is great and that helps with motivation. Third, your video focuses on the piano keyboard and your hands from a first person POV. Many other online teachers seem to want to get their faces in and often have the cameras pointed at them playing from either a side or behind the shoulder POV. All this to say I think I found my online source for getting started on learning piano.

    ...or as my wife puts it, "you wouldn't have all those subscribers if they could see your face..."! Thanks for the kind words, Mike, and I'm glad you like my stuff. Good luck with your progress, and shout if you have any questions (I always answer eventually, though sometimes I get a backlog...!). By the way, you have the right strategy for your daughter: learning online is convenient for adults, but there's no beating one-to-one tuition from an experienced teacher who can give expert feedback. For kids, especially, I think personal tuition is essential. I hope she does well!

    Hi Bill, I've never learnt to play piano (as my teacher refused to teach me when 13 at school as I told her I wanted to learn rock&roll songs). She only taught classical music. So I taught myself guitar and written numerous songs on guitar. But your tutorials look interesting. I've bought a digital piano by selling some of my songs so going to learn from your videos. I only know basic music theory so your piano videos look interesting. Thank you for your content. Best, Roberto.

    Hello oldie, I'm a mere 66 and got the Yam CS synth a few days ago, total newbie but certainly am enthralled by all sorts of music. Its vital I think particularly in older years we keep on with studying, learning, new skills. Goodness knows how I will progress! What hooked me to explore further was realising the patterns of notes when written down, the repeats, the elaboration etc as if visual magic.

    I am so glad I found this series! I'm an older fella (49) and you explain everything so well. I hate that I've decided at such a late age to learn piano, but it is something I have wanted to do since I was in grade school. My parents never had the money for a teacher and living in a small town and in the country made it even harder as I don't believe there was an instructor. Having attention issues was another thing that kept me from attempting to learn. Now that I am older and have learned to cope with my attention issues have I decided to give this a proper try. I am going to start in the next day or two and hope to update you on my progress and/or comment on the specific lessons I am on. I only have an old Yamaha keyboard that is roughly 25 years old and only works sometimes to start with, but I plan to upgrade to a weighted key digital piano as soon as I can save up for one. There are so many to choose from that it can be a bit overwhelming to be honest. Anyway, thank you again for helping make a much older 'kids' dream come true!

    I am so glad i found you, I had 30 min lessons for 12 weeks 5 years ago, she spent most of the time talking about things other than music, very nice lady but when I said I was a beginner she still seemed to think I knew about music, very strange. I stopped playing as not enough information for me, I did lean to play one piece but that was determination from me. Now I have found you and Wow I have learnt so much. I am now back on my key board again. Thank you so much for doing the videos, you are a very good teacher , its easy to understand, especially about the written music, I always found that difficult, its just practice like all the rest. • @BillHilton

    @BillHilton

    11 күн бұрын

    @@Mo-LoveMeForever Yep - though it kind of depends on your budget and the amount of space you have! The ideal is to get something that calls itself a "digital piano" (rather than just a keyboard) with weighted, touch-sensitive keys (so it plays like a real piano) and a sustain pedal. At the cheaper end of the market the latest range of Casios is pretty good; more mid-market the Roland FP series is excellent value for money. If you don't have the space/cash available for those, then really *anything* will do to start with, even a 61-key keyboard. But the closer you can get to the ideal I've described just there, the better!

    Welcome to the channel! Basically your determination is what will get you through, here. If you look at what current research says about older learners, you’re more than capable of learning exactly what a 10-year-old can learn... it’s just going to take a bit more effort and commitment. The thing I always say to older learners is remember the advantage you have that the kids don’t: you’ve got far more grit and willingness than they have. Thank you! This is helping me a lot. I was recently reunited with a piano I had bought new back in 1977. I moved from the US to Japan a few years later and had to leave the piano behind with my folks. After they passed away I had it shipped to me and now, 45 years later, I'm starting all over again, with the same piano but in a country where there are few English speaking piano teachers. They all teach the Doe-Ray-Me scales here rather than the A-B-C scales which I find easier. So, I thank you for this online course. With it I'm sure I can be my own teacher and not have to worry about the local music customs. BTW, the big takeaway for me in the first lesson was how to memorize the key letters in backwards order. Was always difficult for me in the past.

    I played piano for about 8 years when I was under the age of 15 but gave it up. Being in my forties, I decided to take it up again. I spent a few weeks watching one of the most watched youtube videos on learning piano but the gentleman's odd jokes and lessons started frustrating me for various reasons. Thank God, I found Bill. Much better to what I needed to pick it back up. I bought his book and things are much much better now. Plus Bill sounds like Above & Beyond, so it is much more enjoyable. Thank you from Atlanta, GA USA !!

    Bill - because of your videos I built up the courage to finally go out and buy a keyboard. I have subscribed and plan on watching every single lesson and learning along with your teachings. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for lighting a spark in me that was so dim. I learned how to play the keyboard in middle school and instantly fell in love, haven't been able to ever forget about how amazing it was to be able to play "piano". Being a part of the lower-middle class I did not get the chance to touch another keyboard until today when I was able to purchase one on my own. I have already printed out the diagram of the keys -- LOVE the supplemental resources you have provided for us. Please, keep doing what you are doing - I'm 29 and you have inspired me so I can only imagine the younger generation! You are appreciated!

    I totally found that out. I was practicing everyday for almost 6 months and I had an accident at work last year that messed up my right hand and I pretty much quit cause I couldn't use my right hand and didn't see the point of trying to practice with my left hand. Well I started back yesterday and forgot everything except the names of the keys. Highly discouraging but I'm kinda hoping it'll slowly start coming back to me as I start back at step 1.

    Thanks very much - I'm really glad it helped! Good luck with the series, and give me a shout if you have any questions or run into any problems. Quite a few people have been all the way through it now, so I have a good sense of where people tend to run into problems. The number one piece of advice I would give you is don't race through the early tutorials, even if they seem (relatively) easy - the stronger a foundation you build with the earlier ones, and the more instinctive you make the skills that they cover, the better the chance you have of continuing to make progress when things get tougher (which seems to be around lesson 8 or 9 for most people). I wish I'd made more of a big deal of getting that message across in these early videos! Like I said, any help you need, give me a yell 👍

    There are several suggestions for how to learn piano Try practicing for 1 hour a day, or just half an hour if you are very busy. Do extra practice whenever you have more time. For example, on weekends you could do more than 1 hour, perhaps 2 or 3, or even more. (I read about these and more from Denelle Piano Lesson site )

    Thank you, Bill, for this great video. These basic (to some) lessons really help drill the idea and mechanics in. One tip that I found which has helped me is to start one direction on the keyboard and then once comfortable, I will move around. For example - in lesson 3, using both L & R finger 3, play E starting at the bottom, and play towards the top. Repeat, but playing from top to bottom. Once I've done this several times and it begins to sink in, then I will play different E notes jumping around. Also, if I find myself hitting the wrong note or making mistakes and getting frustrated, I'll take a break for a moment, take a few deep breaths and try to clear my head. Then I come back to the lesson and start again, but forcing myself to take it slower. Learning accuracy first then speed will follow.

  • @BillHilton

    @BillHilton

    Yes! Excellent tips - basically anything that can mix things up a bit and help you remember the foundational stuff at this stage will make a difference. It's a good idea to get the foundations nailed tight, tight down: a lot of people kind of race through the early lessons and then get a little stuck around lesson 8, when things get more demanding, because they haven't really made the basics instinctive. Keep up the good work and let me know how you get on!
