This game can turn into a drawn out version of tic tac toe if you're not careful. There's a repeating game play loop that results in an unavoidable cascade of failure.

Checkers can, as well. Such games are known as "futile games" since neither player can win if both players play correctly.

You answered your own question! Definitely Bridge and Pot-Limit Omaha (the difficult version of the more popular, No-Limit Hold'em). Note that cribbage, bridge, and PLO have also had world tournaments. Which I believe add credit to their complexity. Gin Rummy used to have championships, but I don't understand how complex is its strategy

@@reillywalker195 I think the opposite is true. Going back to the place you move from during the next turn completely removes any form of strategy from the game and makes it kinda pointless.

@@sewaprolo The opposite is true. One strategy identified by Wikipedia and Nintendo is entirely based around moving one piece back and forth between four other pieces of yours to repeatedly form mills; should you attempt to set up such, your opponent should be trying to stop you. Even with the rules being so, neither player has an advantage, with the game ending in a draw if both play perfectly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_men's_morris

Here’s a hint: This game dates back to the Roman Empire. Romans were infamously known for their strategy to surround their opponent. Nine Men’s Morris can be seen as one circle inside another, etc etc. each disc represents one division of Roman soldiers. You defeat your opponent by surrounding them so tightly that they have nowhere to go and surrender or in the usual case of the Romans: get massacred

Not sure why everyone plays 9 men's morris. I find 12 men's morris and 3 men's morris much more strategic. The other morris games are kind of boring and repetitive, and you can very quickly find it impossible to win because of how restrictive their boards are

Wow. In Botswana this game goes by either Mhele/Morabaraba. I'm guessing the "Mhele" must have been from Muhle/Mills. It's most likely Boer/Afrikaaner/Baster influenced because Afrikaans(A Germánic Language, closely related to Flemish) has had quite an influence on many Southern African languages over the past 300 years. Setswana in particular.
