  • @jacobesterson

    @jacobesterson

    Ай бұрын

    @@meyeneetuks4680 I have a £20ish deck that can semi-reliably win on turn 5 if you leave it alone, so it's not entirely a price thing. Measuring power levels in EDH is way more complicated than people make it out to be. I think a good place to start is "how much interaction does it take to shut down," because although my Zada deck technically has the tools to win on turn 5 a majority of the time, that's only in a vacuum. One piece of interaction can throw it into a spiral, transforming it from a deck that wins on turn 5 into a deck that fizzles on turn 5 and struggles to recover. It's exactly why interaction is so important, and why people need to run more of it. Spike can't win on turn 4 if you have 1 blue mana open. A truly broken deck can win early while also resisting disruption (I.e. casting Fierce Guardianship for free in response to your own interaction) and that's no fun to deal with unless CEDH is what you're actively trying to play.

    When I first learned magic 2 years ago, I learned it from a friend that learned it from a friend that learned it from a camp counsellor, and we played with some pretty messed up rules. Being able to pay phyrexian mana for every card, immediately being able to ultimate planswalkers, and summoning sickness just not existing are just a couple. Glad I was able to learn the real rules a few months later.

    I have yet to see a tutorial as good as the one that taught me how to play back in 2013. It was a WOTC funded tutorial video on the Magic The Gathering channel with two guys I think their names were Dylan and Ian but I may be wrong on that. It was a bunch of different parts breaking down each aspect of the game i.e. mana, combat, casting spells, turns and steps. It was by far the best video and they even had a final episode where they just talked about products you could buy at your LGS. They took the video down and I was only ever able to find a reposting of it once before but I never downloaded the videos and they had gotten deleted. Pls just upload those vids or at least recreate it with the same tutorial layout just with newer cards.

    while I agree mtga can help newer players grasp many of the basic concepts, leaning too hard into it has detrimental effects, I know a guy that only learned magic from arena and when we got together irl he tried to play sorcery cards and summon creatures during combat, and when I explained why he couldn't he got very frustrated, threw his cards from his hand on to the table and started complaining about how arena did all it for him and this was too complicated. So I'm guessing when he played on arena he probably just played a card any time he had the option and didn't think any further into it.

    Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar jokes aside, this video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I might be attempting to teach some of my family how to play this game, and I didn't know where to start. This is such a great tool to use! Thanks Jimmy!

    As someone who recently got into MGT Arena about a week ago. I decided to go to my local game store and get me a Modern Horizon 2 pre release pack to start my collection to build Decks for Modern and Commander so these videos are a huge help to better learn the game. Thank you I can already tell this is going to be an expensive hobby.. Also I haven't looked yet but If there isn't maybe yall would be interested in making a guide on building Decks and the different combinations. I am sure KZread has these videos from other creators but maybe some will want to see it from Yall.

    The command zone has a few podcast episodes about how to make a deck or how to play commander. Try episode 400 for how to play, or 379 for how to make a deck. You can also start with the Precon-upgrade episodes. They are also all on the command zone channel.

    I love much see simplified this. Lol. It’s great for beginners that literally don’t know anything about the game. But for veterans it’s funny. Like a magic for dummies.
