I started watching your videos about a month ago when I wanted to learn how to fingerpick. I have been playing rhythm guitar for 35 years but never had any training and so am a perenial beginner :). Of all the lessons I have seen, your's are the best and have that 'intimate' quality. I think I have now mastered Travis pick thanks to your excellent lessons. Next challenge is this beautiful song, I will be very proud of myslef once I am able to play, thanks to you in advance. .

Thank you for your kind words. The key is to assign the pattern to muscle memory, starting slow in the beginning. Speed comes later automatically. I went and had my two pinkies injected with cortisone today and I hope to be able to complete a project “How to Play ‘Just Like That’” by Bonnie Raitt. Start working on that pattern. Brilliant presentation. This is the fourth lesson I've watched on this tune and yours is the most helpful to me as a somewhat novice Travis picker. I really appreciate all the care you've taken to breakdown this beautiful tune. The tabs and chords are really helpful and I also appreciate the various camera angles and on and I could go. 🙏

@@DennisAnthonis Thanks for the tip. I watched your first Travis tutorial. It definitely helps and I look forward to watching and working with the others. My biggest challenge so far with "just breathe" is with my left (non picking) hand. I learned Dust in the Wind back in the day, and I have some of the muscle memory locked deep inside (cause it's been about 40 years since I played that tune). Know that your effort and skills in teaching are greatly appreciated. Let me if there's a way I can send a small $ token of appreciation as well.

I feel I’ve taken “I-Movies” about as far as I can. For now my friend, it would be enough for you to subscribe to my channel and share my videos. Did you know that my pattern is almost identical to Kerry Livgren’s pattern in “Dust in the Wind!” He adds one more note at the end with his index finger (on beat ‘4&.’ Plus he plays a “pinch” at the beginning of each measure. It’s wonderful to meet you my friend.

@@DennisAnthonis Hi Dennis. No I don't Travis pick. I've played for 50 years and shockingly had never heard of it until lately. Recently, I wanted to learn how to play "Never Going Back Again" by Lindsey Buckingham, but to my dismay, it required this thing called Travis picking. I thought-no problem. I've never found anything I couldn't play. But that song kicked my butt. To be honest, I have not been disciplined enough to sit down and focus on learning the technique. I was a little depressed when I saw how seemingly hard it is to play which is a testament to Buckinghams (Vedder, on & on) creative genius. Then I wanted to play "Breath" by Eddie Vedder & here is that Travis picking thing poking its head up again! Do you have a video series where I can learn Travis picking? It sounds sooo good when played consistently. Thanks in advance.

Ron ... I sincerely believe that if you apply yourself to this endeavor, you will succeed. Truth be told, Travis picking is not “ridiculously simple,” in the beginning. But once you assign the pattern to muscle memory, it’s easy as pie and seemingly effortless. Please try my teaching tutorials on the subject. I believe “Learn to Travis Pick in 15 Minutes” has the best illustrations to help you. Although “Never Going Back Again” does have some Travis picking elements to it, it will require more than that. Tell you what, learn the pattern and then apply it to a John Prine song, who strictly adhears to “the pattern.” Keep me posted.

.., Thanks Zepp. The alternate (easier) verse is actually very easy. Other than the Dm bass run in the chorus, the entire song boils down to knowing the “pattern” and which 4, 5, or 6 strings to include in the pattern. Hope all is well with you. I appreciate the like my friend. Stay safe.

The pinky so far out is not needed inside that G… an open e string is the same as that far away e note… why go all the way there? Just my 2 cents. Thank you.

… very good question Jasper. I suppose you could elect to play that particular stanza without that reach to the fifth fret of b-string. As I mentioned at the beginning, with the current condition of my hands, I can’t play this with the necessary dexterity to execute it properly. But by reaching out to that 5th fret of the b-string, a more proficient player might incorporate a hammer-on there, or maybe a pull-off. Anyway, that’s why I included the option.
