Jamie, I keep coming back to this video over and over. I think about it whenever I pull out my tenor (sub tone is much easier on tenor than alto … or not even possible on soprano or Nino). Then it just hit me, you are wearing a Better Sax shirt… to thank Jay for the backing track in addition for your plugging his Chanel. In addition to the performance in this lesson being my favorite sax solo ever you are a classy act! Keep up the good work!

Great lesson. Great to hear you playing a ballad again. Last time I heard was in late 90s when you were in the finals of the Young Jazz Musician playing Chelsea Bridge on TV. Had that on VCR and played again and again; real inspiration for me as 16 year old just starting out. Misty was fantastic and after years of playing this tune and then not playing it recently,, I want to get back to it!!

Probably the best ever sax tuition video I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. Maybe the best sax video on KZread - I need to find how to buy you that coffee. So much good advice that is easily put into practice as well as things that would need more work and the demonstration at the end was breath-taking - I realise how much more I can put into ballads. Love it love it love it!!!

It's nice to hear you play. Sometimes making a video with a lessons content, ie Altissimo, is great. But as in this video you generously show and explain to us the way to improve our performance, You then play and that puts all you have done and said in context and thats when it all comes home. Luv it.

Jamie, I adore the versatility of your playing and it proves, that 'Old School' and modern styles like funk are equally worth to be studied generously. As I am seven decades 'young', I seldom play on stage any more and instead use a lot of playbacks in different styles. Many of them have piano phrases from the beginning to the end and don't leave enough space for the soloist. Less is more, I would say, also to my beloved Video teacher Jay Metcalf! Thank you for your engaged lessons and greetings from Austria!

Thanks Jamie! Nice interpretation of this classic! I do think it is helpful to at least be familiar with the lyrics of a ballad, so you get the "feel" of the song. I really needed this over-view of ballads, as tomorrow I have a gig and although I won't be playing Misty, I will be playing a number of ballads. I like your "Johnny Hodges" bends.

Now that's some soulful and sensual saxophone playing! Great choice of backing track, too! Erroll Garner's tune was one of my favorites when I first started playing out. I applaud your fantasitc tone control throughout, although I'd be less prone to include that growl at 25:56. Were you thinking of Dave Pollack at 26:19 with that weak crying altissimo slow fall? Lots of great advice, as always.

Who’s “they”? I assume you mean good jazz improvisors?
