I'm with you - now 64 and retired I have time to delve into all Blackmore's solos and I'm getting better degree by degree. It helps that I've known virtually all the notes in my head since 1972. Thanks again.

Great lesson, man! It's really nice to hear someone else talking so passionately about the history of Machine Head, like I've been doing for so many years. Sometimes I feel like I'm a boring old granpa yackin' about that kind of dinossaur stuff... but definetely not the only one heheheh "No matter what we get out of this, I know I'll never forget" the way that album blew my mind right away, like nothing I've ever heard. It took a single hearing of Lazy for me to decide I was going to be an electric guitar player.

This is a brilliant guitar lesson. Full stop. Just as a matter of opinion, I think this solo sounds (sounds, not 'is') better on a Fender Strat. Still doesn't change the fact that this is a brilliant guitar lesson.

After watching a couple of your vids I had to stop and say that yours is the most beautiful Les Paul I have ever seen!! The cream trim on the wine red is hot, yet elegant and classy!! From blue jeans to leather pants to a tuxedo, It's universally appealing! Even the red LP Customs aren't as smooth as yours. Great Score!!

Your lessons are some of the best I nave seen. I think at 14:30 your fingers fly that far off the neck to get the strong sound from the strings. Don't change a thing. I can't imagine your killer hammer-ons being as forceful if you only had a small amount of travel. If you can do the speed, I think your way is the way to go. Thanks for a great lesson.

All of your lessons are terrific and so many of the songs you choose resonate with my own tastes. I'm a big fan of your teaching style. Don't change a thing. Direct and to the point. Love that LP. Excellent lesson..once again, thank you for not referring to frets, fingers, strings.that stuff drives me nuts. .It is great to learn classic rock music by looking and listening. Like all great solos, he hits harmony notes right on the button, these are the solos that live on and resonate. I love how you nail the minor 3rd harmony solo..the blistering alternate picking will take a while to get up to speed !! cheers mate..I LOVE your lessons.

I agree about Machine Head being a great album. I was recently listening to this song in the car and was thinking, "it doesn't get any better than this". Great energy in this solo. I loved it long before I knew anything about playing guitar. Now I can play it and revisit these old songs I loved growing up. The keyboard solo rocks the house as well. Thanks for the great lesson! You always make a lot of sense the way you explain things.

I'm a keyboard player. Jon Lord and Keith Emerson will always be the 2 best in my book. Keith for overall keyboards, Jon as the supreme Hammond player. Jon showed that one need not choose between playing rock or classical, that one can do both. He was amazing. I miss him (and Keith). I studied classical piano as a kid, heard Deep Purple, that Hammond and went off to play rock while still studying Liszt, Back, Chopin, Beethoven. There are many excellent guitarists out there. There are about 10-15 of my personal favorites. Ritchie will always be the best of the bunch for me. His technique, his originality, the feel he puts into his playing, the difficulty of what he plays - some come close, but none surpass (in my view). He is the only guitarist I will take time to listen to. Very interesting video. Have you ever broken down the Burn solo? That is also intense. BTW, I saw Purple during the Machine Head tour. To this day remains the absolute best concert I ever saw. All 5 of them kicked severe ass!!!

Great choice! And I agree : Deep Purple is a CLASSIC band! (but don't tell the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame that - if they don't know by now, they never will - I'm beginning to think it's more "Rock N Roll" to NOT be inducted in the RNRHOF at this point - SMH) . I have always thought that Perfect Strangers was their consummate album (Machine Head a close second, and was replaced by PS when it came out). I have to say I'm biased though : I really like Steve Morse more than Ritchie Blackmore, but I know it's all a matter of taste to the listener. Though I think Steve Morse really does justice to Purple's older/Blackmore era songs.(check out the Live @ Montreux 2006 video on KZread - his interpretation of 'When A Blind Man Cries' is amazing) Great lesson, as always - keep rockin ' !! P.S. - what type of video camera are you using? Is it from a laptop, or a separate camera unit? (in case I missed it on previous posts) It has great resolution & clarity, by the way.

***** Yeah, it's crazy these guys aren't in the R&R hall of fame! Perfect Strangers is a great album too! Steve Morse is an excellent guitarist, but there's only one RB! The camera I use is a Canon Vixia R400, it's just a basic 300 dollar camera that I got at Costco! but yeah I'm pretty happy with how the vids come out. cheers

Heartbreaker from that era makes Highway Star look like a walk in the park with the Care Bears. Contrary to what everyone, myself included thinks of Page as a live performer, before he got all fucked up, he could let it rip.
