"We practice this slowly because we don't practice any other way" ;_; *cries in understanding*

I am notorious for not practicing slowly enough, so your reminder of the importance of this is greatly appreciated. And your sense of humour really adds a nice element to the guidance in these videos.

Amazing lesson! Your students are very lucky - they are getting wisdom that most conservatory professors don’t care to share much. And please keep the practice examples going - along with the fun cut aways... :)

The first exercise is new to me and seems really interesting - speed is my weakness so I'll definitely be trying it. More generally, any approach to keeping the actual movements fast, but pausing between them to give the brain time to process and prepare seems to be helpful. As I get closer to performance speed I'll play short phrases to tempo, but pause between them to prepare for the next note cluster. Visualising phrases as a single cluster of notes seems to be a key to speed. Finally, I've been in communication with a pro violinist who is also a neurologist, and she is impressed by research that pausing for 6-10 seconds after you have practised a phrase intensively seems to give the brain time to process your work. Apparently it replays the sensations in a speeded-up loop. I use the time to relax my hands and shoulders.

Awesome, Filip. The POWER of the simple, slow, and focused can be ... a game-changer. I can hear that your "sharing spirit" is sincere. AND ... all still applies to "fiddle playing" as well, and so ... I greatly Thank You for sharing your talent. Cheers!

7:06 Thank you!! The lesson was the exact opposite of what I was expecting as speeding up my tempo only makes it sound messy. Trying to speed up has only caused frustration as I thought the more I did this eventually it would improve. Much wasted time. Let’s start again!!

The hardest part is first figuring out all the fingerings and bowings then practicing extremely slowly.

I knew guitarist, Natalia Zukerman, years ago in San Francisco. Her daddy used to say to her, "How can you play an instrument where you cannot sustain a note. This little video is a real game changer. Perhaps, for her, it's not too late. I'm excited about your method of practice and can't wait to begin applying it.

That bow reminder was good, thank you 😊, because my problem is a slower bow arm, so if the passage is extremely quick, I end up slightly out of sinc after the first few notes. The right just won't keep up with the left 😅 But now I can do it your way. It should improve considerably ❤

If u can play it slow, u can play it fast! Jokes aside this really reenforces what my teacher’s been telling me. I’m using this practice method for the fast run in the 3rd mvt of Bach E major… it’s v effective!!! Thank you

I have a challenge for you - A song from guitarist John Petrucci like Terminal Velocity. After 20 years of not playing violin (and disliking to play myself during childhood) this special song motivated me to start again with violin. My husband started to learn the song on guitar and I decided to learn this difficult piece, too, but on violin. Since I found the upside of playing without shoulder rest and your lessons I am optimistic that someday I will figure the song out (although that may take a long time for me xD). I am sure you would master this piece (or another song from him) way faster, than me.

Lol sounds like a challenge! I know that song - I'm a huge Dream Theater fan🤘🏼. It's all just arpeggios basically - it's really unfit for a violin and I'm sure it's way harder on violin than on a guitar. Good luck :)

@@filippogady Cool, thx for the answer. Maybe you could choose another song that fits violin better? I saw a violin cover of Petruccis song Glassgow Kiss. But I would love to hear your interpretation of a song from him. What I heard from you sounds amazing.
