    I started to DM 2 weeks ago and found some inspiration from some of your later videos. I'm beginning the journey through your 200+ videos today because there is a ton of beneficial knowledge here. Looking forward to what I learn. I like your simplified initiative and initiative-every-round mechanics. I may implement them soon.

    This is awesome. Simply awesome. Between Social Distancing and Alcohol Nearing I have finally been able to revisit something I haven't enjoyed in 30 years. Paul and Marshall took me away from this world in 1987 but (spiritual expletive) it feels good to step back in. Hold Daddy's bottle of gin a few minutes, son, the Hill Tribes are restless again . . .

    Sometimes it is good to come back and revisit these epic videos, the eerie suspenseful music as he narrates the simple but so effective back stories, transitioning into the epic channel theme tune, so good and that is just the start but it helps build the mood just a a GM should... I wish I could share this channel with my players but I cant until i have finished pillaging it for all it's worth, the channel is such a Godsend, full of gems even if you dont use everything it always gets you thinking and the cogs turning in ways that elevate your game.

    Shortly before 9/11, I was adventuring in 2nd Edition, when a high-level turncoat mage trapped me in a Hold spell, which he then pemanenced. I remained when an enchanted frog princess freed me out of desperation. (Still green, but now blonde and 5'4", she hopped away with a baleful look, mumbling something about "the things I do for my kingdom." But I digress.) I found my old DM and discovered that the world was now in 5E. I bought the books and started looking for a group, just in time for the 2020 lockdown. Meanwhile, I discovered how different the new system had become. Armor class went up instead of down; initiative was now 20-sided. Saving throws were now 20-sided. 18/xx strength no longer existed. I'd been wondering how I was ever going to unlearn everything I knew, until I found this. If you're not an educator professionally, there's a generation of young people being deprived. I now feel I could roll up a character and play tonight. That's a lot of words for "Thank you." Sorry. I gush when happy. Anyhow, thanks again, and Good Health!

    May I suggest you order your videos into a set of "courses" perhaps, 101, 102, and 201. With 101, being a lot of basic videos on playing the game as written, and the history of the games, as well as any of your reviews. 102, being rule changes and the "every secret" series. And 201 being only the most advanced of material, such as your campaign setup. Just a suggestion, but I think it would be a nice way to organise your content.

    Both of those suggestions can be quite difficult to implement though. You have to know the game, advertise it, get people together. Check the dnd.wizards.com website. They have a game finder. Also, check Gamefor, an app for finding games. It didn't really catch on and not enough people use it but you might get lucky. My advice is to let someone else do the work for you. Find a local game store and ask the manager to look into it for you and gauge interest. They can also give you a safe place to play.

    What he does is ignore abilities and proficiency bonuses, only using the class and level as reference, greatly speeding up the game. It's a quick way to bypass abilities and proficiency, whether it's a fair rule or not is up to you.

  • @taylorchinn

    @taylorchinn

    It depends very much on how you look at it. The difference between lowering the DC for a given task or giving the character a bonus based on their circumstances or their class or background is functionally the same. As long as the DM isn't playing favorites, there should be no issues. If the DM is playing favorites, well, you have a problem that changing the rules won't solve.

  • @GavinRalston13

    You simply stated an opinion, though. Not why the "rule" isn't good, or why others are better. What gives? Even if you prefer a more formal experience, you could use the idea when you're winging it for corner cases and situations the rules can't or won't anticipate by design.

  • @wpgngaming-videos888

    It is if the situation calls for it. That player might have something built into their character which gives them a HUGE advantage over the others. An innate advantage like that would dictate that lowering the DC for said character would be easier, and more fluent, than doing all of the math.

  • @RylanStorm

    It comes down to perceived fairness. The rules already cater for Natasha's higher chance to detect the poison. She'll have a higher intelligence and may have a proficiency bonus. Brunt's lack of intelligence and proficiency will make it harder for him. Why then cheat by making it even easier for Natasha to succeed? How will Brunt feel? If the argument is that Natasha will know this then simply state that Natasha does not need to roll. This is also converted on the rules as a "simple task".
