    After watching this, the game still takes me way longer than 14 minutes

    Right. Something he forgot to mention is that you only have 1/2 a second to do your turn. You’re welcome.

    Very straight-to-the-point, which is appreciated, but I'm still new to the genre so am overwhelmed by how technical this game is

    It can be a bit rough, but I do think that this game, as with a lot of others like it, becomes a lot less intimidating once you've actually played it a time or two.

    RTFM, this is a fantastic video, thanks! Dune is a good game to take out a friend for a lunch and play, and I've been on a lookout for a quick & good way to get on with the rules in good logical sequence - for those who are new to the game. Yours is so far the best I've seen!

    The source material is arguably the best SF trilogy ever written so far. Anyone who reads SF should read the initial trilogy (no comments either way on the many sequels). Well worth the read if you like stuff that is at all "thinky" -- you can enjoy it on the base level, but when you start to think about things it's dealing with, that is where it truly shines. ;-)

    I love both deck building games and worker placement games so boy-howdy does this tick my boxes. I'm not a huge Dune fan but I loves me my sci-fi so this might be something I'll pick up just because of the game style. Thanks for the video Shay.

    Glad I could help! And if you like deckbuilders/worker placement games, I'd also recommend Lost Ruins of Arnak, if you haven't already tried that one. I don't have a video for it or anything, but it is a great game.

    Excellent tutorial. On 13:00, I think that design choice is intuitive based on what you had just explained (ties are punished by moving down on the rewards track). 1st place gets the best prize. The other two players didn't do well enough for 1st place AND they tied for 2nd place. They must move down on the rewards track, so they share 3rd place. Makes sense to me.

    When you gain the benefit of 'trash a card' eg: you send an agent to the selective breeding space, can you only trash from your hand? Or can you pickup and look through your deck for a card to trash? (gaining knowledge of what's next if you later choose to draw) What about the conflict card that lets you trash if you win the conflict? Same or different?

  • @RTFM

    @RTFM

    Жыл бұрын

    Whenever you trash a card, it has to come from your hand, discard pile, or in play. You can't take from your deck.

    Pretty sure BG cards are different from Fremen Bond in the sense that the order does matter for them. Thats what the rulebook implies. Am I wrong?

  • @RTFM

    @RTFM

    2 жыл бұрын

    You've got it right. It's only the reveal cards that activate all at the same time. I was more bemoaning the fact that Fremen cards get a cool name than suggesting that they were identical. Because of how the BG cards are spelled out, I don't think they're going to cause much confusion.

    Excellent intro, very well done. You should, however, add an update to the end of it to discuss Ix, at the very least. Even if you have another one that does it, I'd supplant this one with an update. I'll also recommend Orski's videos on DI, especially as he covers Rise of Ix: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2Gsy7STdpPUfJM.html

    What is it with Klingon subtitles? Am I missing something here?

  • @RTFM

    @RTFM

    3 ай бұрын

    KZread doesn't offer any kind of "creator's notes" option, so if I want to post any corrections I use the Klingon subtitles channel. I use that one because it's not a language that anyone might actually speak, so they won't get their hopes up that there are subtitles in their language.

    Why are the only subtitle available is KLINGON?! What the hell is going on?

  • @RTFM

    @RTFM

    Жыл бұрын

    I mention this early in the video but it's not really klingon subtitles, that's just where I put rules corrections if needed. KZread doesn't have an easy way to post minor alterations, so using the Klingon subtitles is a good way to do that since no one is going to need those anyway.

    Ummm. @ 530ish, it's Emperor, not Emporor. Sorry, not looking to be a grammar nazi, just that you probably want to look as professional as possible 😉

    Oh, no worries, I love some good pedantry (and it would be a spelling nazi, not a grammar nazi) so if I could change that I would. For some reason emperor is a word that I will always misspell the first time and I just didn't catch it here. Oh well.

    Good explanation of a generic euro game ripe for re-skinning to any number of movie/tv/comic book themes without having to change any mechanics.
