What tips can you give about how you strum and what are your favorite picks. I sit down and play and I am trying to get the wrists to work like you do. I think I do not use my other fingers other than the fingers that hold the pick. I somehow sense you are brushing your other fingers. Just a guess. You got it going, Troy!

Hello my friend, great to hear from you again. You might be surprised to learn there’s nothing fancy about the way I strum a guitar. Most of the strumming patterns I use are a variation of an 8th note strumming pattern…. ⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️ kinda thing. I throw in muted slap strums all the time and that might be what’s throwing you off. I am not strumming chords with anything other than my pick. When I have to do some lead riffs, I tend to go with a harder pick otherwise I prefer Softer picks for chord strumming. This is because I’m usually strumming a chords quite hard. I never learned to strum lightly! I usually use a .60 or even lighter. It really depends of the song. Hope this helps!

Great song! I’ve been curious for a while now, at what levels on your mixer do you have your mic, beat buddy, and guitar set at? I like that your guitar doesn’t overpower vocals and the best buddy. Thanks

Hey Mr. Nilles, this is great question, I use a Bose Tonematch T1. There isn’t really anything specific as far as settings. With this particular song I use a light compression for my vocals and the BB… I have a noise gate filter on the guitar. The Bose mixer is all set at 50% trim and volume levels. This keeps everything quite balanced. I do have to adjust volume levels on the guitar from time to time but thats rare. The ToneMatch really does a great job with this. I hope this answers your question.

As a beginner, i wait to hear what chords are needed to play your songs. i have to admit, i cringe when you announce the last chord is a "bar" chord! no matter how much i try, a just can't do those!

Hey Mr. Imparatoa…. My friend, you are not alone. Barre Chords are a Challenge for any beginner. I recall hating them myself when I first started playing. Much like you, I avoided songs that needed them. I’ve always suggested that if you can learn 10 standard chords and have a good grasp of barre chords, you could learn hundreds of songs and that is still true. I’d like to simply say to you…don’t give up on barre chords. They will come to you with practice. I’m putting together a tutorial lesson on barre chords in the coming weeks I think you might find helpful. Either way, don’t let them frustrate you. With practice, you’ll to become an expert at them.

More showboating than teaching 2/3 of the video was a cover although it was pretty good singing more of a cover than a tutorial

Hey Mr. Dixon thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate all critiques of my tutorials. The cover is a crucial part of teaching the song. Any guitar teacher can show you the chords and progressions then call it a day. I take the time to show you the chords, show you the chord progression and put it all together in a cover so it all makes sense. This is especially important if the viewer is just trying to learn to play guitar. Someone like yourself who may be a more advanced player may not need to see how it all comes together. Putting the showboating aside, I hope you were able to get something from my tutorial. I look forward to hearing from you again! Thanks my friend!

Ahhh, barre chords, they can be challenging for sure if your a beginner my friend. I vividly remember struggling with Barre chords myself when I first picked up a guitar. Here’s a fact….to this day, I still don’t play barre chord that well. The truth is, you really don’t need to play a perfect barre chord every time. I’ve been asked many times to do a video on how I approach barre chords. I’m putting that together so watch for the video coming soon.

@@superdepressif6047 I do love the Ramones. If you like punk rock, you’ll definitely need to learn barre chords my friend. I have a song you might appreciate called “can’t you see” by the Marshall Tucker band. A great southern country rock band. The entire song has on three easy chords. D, Cadd9, and G. If you could master this song you could also play Sweet home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gat7pLClfJCXj7g.html
