RULES:
The rules are the same as regular plunder chess, except for these changes. The object of the game is to capture both of your opponent’s kings. During setup each player removes their 2 center pawns, then sets up their rear rank pieces from left to right as follows: King, Queen, Knight, Space, Space, Rook, Bishop, King. Take note that the player’s pieces do not mirror each other. While you have 2 kings on the board, there is no check or checkmate, treating kings like any other piece. When one your kings is captured, the capturing piece may plunder the king vest if you want. Plundered king vests follow the same requirements as normal vests and grant the moment ability of the king. Kings are not allowed to castle and you may not castle with a king vest move. Once one of your kings has been captured, then your remaining king must follow the normal check and checkmates rules. Pawns are still not allowed to promote to a king.

The fact that chess variants are getting variants may sound crazy but, if you think about it, that's how we have modern chess: a chain of variants of other variants. - Chaturanga. - Shatranj (mirror king chaturanga). - Fast Chess (Shatranj but with double-step initial pawn move). - Super Bishop Chess (Fast Chess with courier movement for the bishop). - Super Queen Chess (Modern queen movement is implemented). - Modern Chess (Castling rule added). Of course, this is an over simplification, but you get the idea.

Janggi is a variant of xiangqi, which appears to have been a fusion of chaturanga and an unrelated game. And shogi has also spawned numerous variants.

@@KororaPenguin Yes, I know. And Shogi is clearly derived from Makruk (which cames from Ouk Chatrang) with a dash of Xiangqi.

So if you control a piece that has a king vest, and you're down to a single king, do normal check/check mate rules apply and can you stay in the game if both kings have been captured, but you have a piece with a king vest?

So if I capture one of your kings, do I now have three kings? Or does a piece with a king vest not count as a king for purposes of winning or losing the game?

The King Vest doesn't give the King Title to the piece wearing it, only the movement options of the King and only once. So, no, you still have 2 kings, and 1 piece with a King Vest. Please note that a King taking another King wont earn a King Vest, just like how other pieces cant get their own Vests.

I am disappointed by this variant. My own Barbaric Chess is much much better.
