Thank you so much for this very understandable lesson. I've played piano by ear for 46 years but never knew what chords i was playing. I've tried many many times to learn to read music but for some reason I just can't. I've given up trying to read as I don't really need to to play but I really want to learn what the chords are and understand how they're structured. I also need some corrections with my fingering which I've learnt here too. Looking forward to working my way through your videos and getting on track to learning to play 'properly'! It's literally my lifelong goal to actually know what the notes/chords are I'm playing! Thank you :3

So if you lay out all 10 fingers starting at C, your fingers will be on C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D, and E. The spacing of these ten notes is: Root (C), whole step (D), whole step (E), half step (F), whole step (G), whole step (A), whole step (B), half step (C), whole step (D), whole step (E). Again, thats: R-WW-H-WWW-H-WW If you change the root note from C to any other key, and you keep your fingers on the keys that follow this whole step/half step pattern, then the chords of that key will be played with the same fingers as those of the C scale. Your 1st 3rd and 5th finger will play the first major chord of that key. Your 2nd 4th and 6th finger will play the first minor key of that key. Your 3rd 5th and 7th finger will play the second minor chord of that key. Your 4th 6th and 8th finger will play the second major chord of that key. Your 5th 7th and 9th finger will play the third major chord of that key. Your 6th 8th and 10th finger will play the third minor chord of that key. Then if you move your right pinky up a half step, then your 7th 9th and 10th finger will play the diminished chord of that key.(MmmMMm°)

Why Dmin Emin chords in C major
@SimplifiedPiano
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You form chords around each note of the C major scale in the pattern of major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, diminished. The d minor and e minor are the second and third notes of the scale. Hope that helps.
Simply piano's successful sibling XD
When it comes to the chord the finger placement is so hard
@SimplifiedPiano

Maybe try fingers 1,2,&5?
Here I am again. I think I have a little crush on you.
