How to Play a Classical Guitar Tremolo

Музыка

In this video I walk you through the exercises that have helped me develop the beautiful and musical tremolo that has brought me so much success in my career as a concert guitarist. Below you’ll find a description of finger-picking combinations as well as the description of each exercise according to its corresponding level.
“Finger A” - Ring Finger
“Finger M” - Middle Finger
“Finger I” - Index Finger
Exercise Level 1: Triplet tremolo on the first string going through all finger-picking combinations (listed below) individually.
Exercise Level 2: Four note tremolo, adding the thumb which plays a bass-line, going through all finger-picking combinations individually.
Exercise Level 3: Triplet tremolo, using the thumb, going through all finger-picking combinations individually.
Exercise Level 4: Triplet tremolo on the second string, using the thumb, going through all finger-picking combinations individually.
Exercise Level 5: The Circle, cycling through all finger combinations, in a row, in a triplet tremolo on the first and second string.
Exercise Level 6: Triplet/four-note tremolo, adding the thumb’s bass-line and inner melodies milliseconds before the first note of the triplet. This will create space for the thumb melody to truly shine melodically.
Exercise Level 7: Triplet/four-note tremolo while playing with rubato and accelerando in order to create a musical phrasing.

Thank you for these great exercises, Pablo! And for always making sure to remind us to be conscious about the artistic, musical aspect of playing guitar. You encourage us to try to make our guitar “sing” more similar to a human vocalist, which makes the pieces sound much more enjoyable and beautiful as compared to playing overly mechanical.😊

This is wonderful and I am so grateful to have come upon this. In the time from my youth that I studied tremolo technique I always Incorporated my pinky finger as well and I wonder if you could touch upon that please. Although it's unorthodox it is useful and a great dexterity building technique... this allows for so much more agility in melodic combinations with thumb technique

Hola Pablo! ….. Gracias

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! Classical guitar has been my favorite western instrument all the time. After I went to your concert in Kaohsiung months ago, I finally made up my mind to start learning classical guitar! Is there a solution to musule memory on other instrument fighting, other than "just keep practice"? I have encountered a problem, which is my muscle memory of playing tremolo on pipa (chinese lute), is fighting with the way to play it on classical guitar. To be more specific, the direction of finger movement is I-M-A-C outward, then P inward. Also, playing pipa needs to wear artificial nails, which makes it difficult to adjust to the distance on classical guitar.

  • @PabloSainzVillegas

    @PabloSainzVillegas

    8 ай бұрын

Hello! So practicing is really important for muscle memory, but it also matters the way you practice. Practice slowly and deliberately, use a metronome to increase your speed, and remember to always do your best to maintain the right hand position and technique!
