Funny you posted this, I was just telling my wife that I was interested in trying to grow a “Crusader” Hawthorn tree from seed in a pot, to take with us in the next year or two so when we move to a bigger property and plant it in-ground. All the best sir, you’re a phenomenal educator! Marshall, from Dayton Ohio

Hi David. This was the best comprehensive tutorial on planting a tree. Appreciated very much. I suspect my Japanese bloodgood maple might have been planted too deep. I might have to correct.

See the problem is about 95% of the people who sell trees don't care about results. So it's nice that you give a damn. Good on you.

Thank you. One of the key factors to bear in mind when buying trees is the condition of the root system. It is one of the MOST IMPORTANT (and often overlooked) parts of the plant! And, it is also the part that you don't see, until you remove the pot! That's why when you visit our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ and choose the trees "Grown By Overdevest", you can be assured they will have a good fibrous, well established and non-encircling root system. Which as David illustrates in this video, leads to quicker and more successful transplanting, faster establishment and greater stability later in life. Have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. And, during the main planting season (spring through late Fall) our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ which are located all over our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, will have all sorts of beautiful, tried and true and cutting edge, top performing selections (including lots of wonderful trees), so be sure to stop in regularly.

@OverdevestNurseries I'm in the southeast so unless your partners will ship I'm afraid I'll just have to stick to the root block and a good whittling knife.

I want to plant a climbing hydrangea. Does you grow them? I live in NJ. I haven’t been able to find one. I prefer to able to see it in person and not buy on line. I’m willing to drive to one of your partners to purchase. I enjoy your channel. Very informative. That red bud is gorgeous.

Yes, we are glad to confirm that we grow climbing Hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris): grownbyoverdevest.com/plant/climbing-hydrangea/ and we are shipping them out to our network of hundreds of partnering garden centers now, so if you get in touch with your nearest places you might be able to secure some: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ Just be aware that not every place carries every plant that we grow, so it might be wise to call ahead. And if by chance, your favorite place doesn't actually have them at this moment, if you contact them (and place a firm order) they may be willing to get some in from our new crop later in the year. Also, just a little note to fill you in.... When you get your plants, they will be nice big, strong, healthy, premium sized specimens, but even then, it is a typical characteristic of this plant to take a few years after planting to settle in before they "get going" and put on a lot of growth. So, even with our good sized plants, it takes a little patience. 😉👍

want to buy a Flame Thrower Redbud 2 ft bare root sapling immediately, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t survive planting in 80 degre August temperatures here in WNY. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Fall is the BEST time for planting, and with Redbuds (like other members of the pea and bean family) it is better to plant them as established pot grown ones. As you have probably noticed in this (and our other videos on trees), we go to a lot of trouble to make sure our plants are grown to the highest possible standards and when you go along to our partnering garden centers you should be able to see exactly what you are getting..... and why all that effort will pay dividends in the end. Have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. Thanks for asking, our nursery is in USDA Zone 7, but as you may have noticed in some of our videos, the location is flat and open, and windy and exposed, so it often feels more like a cold Zone 6! FYI, our plants are offered through a network of partnering garden centers : grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ that range from Zone 5 (almost 4) through to Zone 7. Can we ask....
