    Yes, should work. It might have a higher cut in speed with the lower voltage though ?

    Thanks, they were marked on the pcb as W1,W2,W3. I think one is a centre tap on the coils, so I only used two of the connections. But if they're not marked you can just see where the wires go into the pcb from the coils. They're usually the biggest pads on the pcb.

    what would happen if the fan was rotating the other way? Although I don't understand why you had to rewire the fan, I loved this tut, because it was clear what you're doing. Way to go, hope there are many more to come. ;-)

    I've been watched it 2 hours ago and right n I have my own.! I buil it and tried it and its awesome, but my fan is only 12v but it works like that.! Great!!

    So, I noticed that there was some IC and electro-wizadry on the board (before you gutted it) and 3 wires going to the motor. Is it possible that the IC was generating some form of 3-phase? If so, a considerable amount more power could be drained from this motor for the same RPM by using 2-stage bridge rectification. Just a thought.

    On my DC ,CPU when I took it out ,I saw diode ,and the CPU is not three phase ,I think one phase .Do I need to re solder and make the system like Dc

    Why do you have to re-solder the wires? I just tried out my 12V PSU fan and I seem to get some volts out of if I just stick red and black wires to the electrometer and start hand spinning the fan. As you might have guessed, I'm rather new into this. Thanks in advance if someone enlightens me in this =)

    How would you convert AC to DC without diodes? The standard way to covert AC to DC is with a rectifier, which is made up of 4 diodes.

    It's all about the motor and the power of whatever is running it (be it a stirling engine or wind, water from river etc...) he shows the voltage later in the video, not sure about current.

    yeah any rectifier diode will do, but try to find schottky diode BAT85, i watched other vid and he used that diode.

    Bimo Pppsi I’m wondering about the White wire as well, if it isn’t needed why was the 3 wires( including the White wire) re soldered?. Then after all 3 wires were soldiered I could only see the 2 negative and positive( black n Red). So what happened to the White wire?

    no as you saw it only gos upp to 6 volts if you want to power a fan with that windmill you will need the windmill to charge a 12 v batery and then from th e battery connect it to the fan and it will work but i recommend a bigger battery more than 12 volts ;D

    Good fun..did this with a fan from a hot air paint stripper..used chopped up compact discs glued onto the fan blades..worked well.....need to find computer fan and eat pot noodle....

    early in this video you unsoldiered all 3 wires but after you glued the new blades on the fan the white wire was no longer on the electric motor what happened to it

    watch it again and pay attention on what he is saying, after he solder all three wires, he said, " try among the three wires which will give the higher output voltage and then eliminate the unnecessary wire" by unnecessary i think he meant that eliminate the connection that would only give lower output voltage.     It's just a bridge rectifier. Search google, there's millions of copies of this circuit on the interent
