In 90 days I went from 430 to 382 by dieting. I'm working on losing weight to join the Illinois National Guard as 11B unless I score higher on the ASVAB. I'm determined to to serve and I don't care about the obstacles.

How to prepare for officer? I’ll summarize it: 1) Don’t get visible tattoos. 2) Don’t get into legal trouble/arrested 3) Have a college GPA of at least 3.0 4) Get used to operating on no sleep 5) Prepare for homesickness and missing your woman. Make sure family is in order because you won’t have time to talk to them. 6) WORK OUT. Do pull-ups, push-ups, curl-ups, and LOTS and LOTS of cardio and HIIT training. Lifting wouldn’t hurt. 7) HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE.

I know it's going to be hard, but I've been strict with myself so I can get mental toughness and get through it. The only thing I want to do it is be a Ranger. Hopefully soon, RLTW.

Easy, get used to not getting enough sleep, unintelligent (lack of) programming for calisthenics and running which will not improve anything. Get used to your knees shins and back killing you because Monday runday tuesday run day, Wednesday push up sit up run day, and don't expect to actually be swole or gain weight unless you're able to do PT on your own.

Very true what they said.. on many of the points actually. You basically need to train according to what you want to be a part of. A military personnel may not be an athlete of some sport org but he or she is still an athlete, only difference being they represent what protects the country. An athlete who can still think despite prolonged exhaustion or lack of sleep. An athlete who can go on auto pilot when their brains are drained and taxed beyond limit to finish their objectives and mission. Enduring the heat, sweating, skin tearing from the weight of your rifle slings and equipment, getting wet and then cold, then drying up and having to move on the next morning it’s tough business. It makes preparing for physical tests in camp or going to the gym look like heaven sometimes. Great video anyway keep it up @Nick Bare

I want to start with saying that my following input is meant as constructive and in no way disrespectful: “Running until you puke,” this mentality works. I agree with your scientific fitness theories, wholeheartedly. But, as the Raider says, you don’t always have time to do things “appropriately,” because of field time and so on. So, military fitness have to be foundational and built on mental fortitude, going full force and breaking down barriers as you go. This builds resilience in fitness and cognitively, which you know all to well Nick, Soldiers MUST have to be effective, especially in combat. So, the “old-school” “hooah” mentality towards fitness is absolutely effective, and is a product of doing more with less to get the mission done. Also, the term “military-athlete” is good, but it means something completely different then say a football player... it means being well-rounded, have a high-level of endurance, and adaptable overall. There just is so “one-size-fits all” solution to this style of physical readiness, because the mission changes every day. I do live your “hybrid-athlete” approach to fitness, because I think it’s most applicable to military fitness. I hope all that makes sense, again just a constructive argument, this is just my take on military fitness! Love what you do man.

At the 11 min mark when you both say you wished you had found functional fitness training (CrossFit) really needs more emphasis, CF has a stigma around it where dudes think its gay but I wish I did that shit when I was in, my career would have been totally different. Also, where I live in AZ, there is a jump school for seals and when they're here they drop into my box and do CrossFit, so don't let people tell you SF guys aren't doing it.

Serious Question I have very large legs (pushing 28 inches with veins) with a 32-33 inch waist lil chubby (medically obese but barely) from years of heavy squatting and deadlifting. Should I try to lose size in my legs to be able to do more pull ups. I wouldn't be going to training for a year and a half anyway so I have time to get my pull ups up along with my cardio which is my greatest weak point. It's not long rucking it's more the running.

Asonta Evans Sprints! Sprint 30 sec walk 60 sec. Once you are comfortable sprint 60 sec walk 120 sec. Also hill rushes. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I played d1 football as a defense end at 6’6” 240lb. I can blow through a practice and a high intensity sprint workout but if I run for a distance longer than like 400m then I’m dead. How does being in military shape relate to being in “football shape” if that makes sense

Freedom Child Depends on your MOS, as an 11B in a Stryker unit our usual weekly schedule is as follows: Monday - 3-5 mile AGR at 7:30 to 9:00 mile pace Tuesday - 4 800m sprints and the pace depends on what your 2 mile run time is Wednesday - 2 800m sprints 4 400m sprints and 4 200m sprints again based on your 2 mile run time Thursday - 5-6 mile ruck run with 35 lbs or more ruck and Friday - 4 800m sprints or another 3-5 mile release run depends on how leadership feels.

I’m 25 and at this point in my life think the military would be really good for me and exactly what I need toyed with the idea when I was younger but never went through with it, problem is I broke my hip really bad when I was 14 and have had 3 surgeries on it in the past 10 years with screws and plates in it. Would any branch of military actually take me.

I really love the content! Keep doin what you’re doin Although I just want to point out “All of those guys that look emancipated.” The word “emancipated” means: “free from legal, social, or political restrictions” like the Emancipation Proclamation by Abe Lincoln. The correct word i think you were trying to use there is “emaciated” meaning: “abnormally think or weak”
