Hi new to the channel and have subscribed straight away. I have 15 years in the job and the way you clearly explain everything on your videos is excellent and they are a pleasure to watch and I will definitely be watching more. Thanks for taking the time to do these and I look forward to seeing more!! Can’t understand the sad jealous people that hit 👎 they obviously don’t have a clue!! Thanks again!!!👍👍👍👍👍

Well done Charles! Really great quality video, I always wondered how the DSG service was done.
Love your videos man! I never thought of using vise grips on those hose clamps.
Thanks. I'm about 2k miles away from my first (since i bought the car) DSG service. Will for sure be doing it myself looks similar to a CVT service.
Did my DSG relatively recently with the kit from Deutsche Auto Parts that you did with them. Gravity filler was time consuming haha. I found cutting a small hole in the fluid bottle helps with pressure building up and taking even longer.
Great session Just got a 2012 GTI DSG with 75 K heard service is due every 40 K .Thanks so much reminds me of doing trans service on my Eurovan .
Thanks for the video. I did the 40,000 service myself but was unsure of the DSG so I had the dealer do that. Next time I'll do the DSG also ..not that big a deal.
I'm subscribed, and haven't had time to catch all these great videos... but I was about to do something similar on my Passat TDI on my back underneath the car , until I made plans to convert it to a manual. Good Job!
My wife's 2012 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, and my step-daughter's 2012 Jetta TDI Sedan are both *exactly* the same as this. (Well -- almost exactly the same. Their cars have the Torx T-25 screws holding the air box together. 8 of them. Because apparently VW *really* wanted that air-box to be held together well. LOL) But you've gotta love the fact that VW kept this exact same setup in production for multiple years and models. Makes servicing *so* much easier!
this is a great video thank you been wanting to do this as a diy on my 2010 2l scirocco tsi. but was unsure where to start. thank you
Digging the how to videos! Keep up the great work!

An alternative way... drain fluid, refill with 5L through oil filter housing. Takes bloody ages but doesn't need any special tools. Warming DSG oil in hot water helps the time it takes.

Awesome! Thanks Humble dude.
I'm watching this video as I'm about to attempt a DSG service, it looks very useful so far. One thing that made me cringe though, undoing the allen bolt next to the battery with a metal ratchet. I've always worked on the assumption that the battery gets removed first regardless of the job. It would only need a small slip to connect ground with live. (A bit later on you're tightening the ground connection and the ratchet actually touches the positive, it's only because you used a rubber covered ratchet that stopped it from making quite a mess)
Great video. Step by step. Thanks

Your videos are so good and so helpful how many miles was on this dsg fluid? I have a 14 jetta I have never had this service done my car has 65.000 miles on it.
Hey man, I have been watching your vids for my VR6 97. And you helped me a lot... So thanks you, for that. Today I'm having an issue on my Audi A3 2.0tfsi 2006 Tiptronic, she won't drive at all. I have turned on the car, no noise went from P to Drive and shows on the side 2 as the gear ingaged but it feels like a neutral mode. And going on S/tip also 2 can't change it at all. The rear doesn't engage, I have no alarming noise, neither smells... If you have any information about that issue I'll be more than thankful and send you a gift :)
Hey Charles! Thanks for all the vids. You're a great resource for just about everything I've had questions on regarding my Passat B6. I heard you state that you always remove the negative battery terminal first and reinstall it last (which is the correct practice) but then in the video you bounce back and forth between the 2 terminals with your wrench. Just as troubling is that your wrench was long enough to connect between the terminals. Clearly you're and experienced mechanic who is well aware of the risks of inadvertently connecting the 2 terminals and you took the requisite care not to.For the rest of your viewers though, the practice of removing the negative cable first is to eliminate the risk of contact by the wrench with surrounding metal parts. Once the negative cable is REMOVED (not just loose), then the positive cable can be worked safely with no risk in case of inadvertent contact by the wrench with adjacent metal parts. Additional safety can be achieved by ONLY using tools shorter than the distance between the battery terminals.
Hey Charles, thank you for this video. Very well made. I have a question if you don't mind. Will having the car on wheel ramps only in the front be an issue with draining or will I be able to drain a majority of the oil out? Thank you for your time.

It would have been nice if you had installed a Battery Hold Down Clamp for the qwner, this can be a real hazard in a roll-over accident if not fitted. Also the Air Box and associated pipe work needed a good clean up, change the filter etc. Attention to the small details highlights a good mechanic from the rest, or in modern parlance "Vehicle Technition"

If you change the fluid while the trans is still fairly warm. (Remove the intake and battery) Then warm your trans fluid up to 100F+(It will cool slightly as you fill your trans). Not only will the fluid drain into the trans faster but it's already very close to the correct operating temperature(and expansion). Just let the excess flow out of the inner drain plug and shift the gears while running, install the outer plug and your done.
Hello... I like very much your videos. I have one VW Polo 2015. It's the same procedure? I don't have the VCDS... It's possible to check the transmission temperature with a laser thermometer? Thanks a lot
Hi thanks a lot for detailed information great ❤ Have one question: which one is oil inlet and which is outlet of the cooling radiator for the transmision. I searched a lot on the net, nothing 😂
Charles is it possible or vise to fill new fluid through the filter housing?
Does dry dsg need service as well? Thx 👍
Hey Mr. Charles, what type of dsg fluid did you use? I have 06 jetta 2.5L, what type of dsg fluid should I use?
On some models, atleast Skoda, you can remove the filterhousing+filter without removing the battery.
It looks to me like you do not use (Harbor freight) gloves!!!!! Thanks for the videos!!!!
I have a couple questions, what is that accordion looking hose on the back of the airbox, and how crucial is it. Secondly, you said you put in about 5 liters of fluid, what is the dry fill capacity (new), so essentially how much fluid does the entire dsg take.
Oh man thank God for that rubber handle you could welded that ratchet to the battery
That air filter looks almost like the one for the 2.5 except thicker. It may also be a different size but it does look similar to the one I would find in my Passat 2.5
The oil level is gonna be checked on 35-45 degrees C. No problem to check it no forex 42 degrees. I work as a technician at a VW dealership, and that is that the ODIS (VW own diagnostic equipment) says :)
Hi Charles, it seems like online it's all the 6 speed DQ250 dsg that need change the filter, i got a DQ500 and the filter is not next to the cooler but closer to engine and it seems like dealership only changes the oil not filter. i wonder how often do i need to change the filter??? is changing it every other oil change okay?? because filter is under the turbo pipe and coolant pipe it's much bigger job to change it. i also have a 6 speed DQ250 and honestly the filter is quite clean every time i change it. what do you think?
Hi Charles, thanks for the informative video. I have a 2015 CC with the 02E trans. It all of a sudden stopped moving both forward and reverse. When I scanned it, I got a code P0716 (G182 implausible signal). Pls can the G182 cause the car not to move at all? Is there a way to check this sensor with multimeter. I have checked the connector and no physical damage, I have opened the mechatronic cover and the wire of the G182 looks good. before all of this, I have replaced the DSG oil and filter. Is there something else I can do? My car is 32000 miles. Thanks again.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, myself... Let the dealer do it -- too much of a pain in the ass to do it myself. Then my local dealer raised their price to $499 for a damn DSG service, and I decided I could do it myself. And it really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd thought it would be. And when the timing belt needed doing at 120K miles, I went ahead and did that, too -- that was a *much* bigger pain, but still doable with the right tools. Even with the special tools, I still saved like $500 off what the dealer wanted for the timing belt. TL;DR -- all modern cars are complicated, but you *can* work on them if you're determined enough.

+Ryan Tecklenburg there is a link in the description. You can get it on Amazon. :) awesome tool.
Does the dealer perform a DSG reset as part of the 40k service? Some people on the forums say yes, but my factory manual says nothing about it in the fluid change section. I haven't seen any of the DIY videos mention it either. I have performed a DSG reset (outside of the fluid service) before, and it's a lot of extra work if you include the test drive.

No, we didn't do that on a service. There is only a few times where they recommend doing that basic setting. Replacing a mech unit, replacing clutch packs, and in some cases for diagnosis. no need for that on just maintenance.

I read somewhere that disconnecting the battery can cause the DSG to reset. Don't know if that's true or not, but would be cool if it was built into the service.
Hi! Would the trans fluid that’s in the link in your description work for a 2018, Passat gt with the dsg?
Bro can you please give me a link for the adapter that connects to the transmission piece that threads into the transmission
Is it possible to fill from the top? After removing the filter?
Can I check with the experts here, do we need to break in after clutch/flywheel change on a 7 speed DSG Gearbox?
Question. I've seen other transmission fluid changes where by the oil drain plug is removed first along with the measuring nosel thingy if your car has it. Then, loosening the DSG filter and letting the oil just drain out. Then grab your self a sandwich, watch some KZread clips of bad drivers and come back to the rest of the service. Can this be done this way? I just think it's my preference since it removes the need for clean up of any oil spilling out when removing the filter. Almost creates a vacuum in the trans to let all the oil out. Just wonderin'. Thanks anyway for the great vid.

Yes you can do it through the filter housing, but it's very slow. Best part of an hour with cold oil.
Great how to ;) V.a.g says that oil must be in optimum temperature...if is to high its not recomended to drain oil.... so we have to wait to cool down... To see temperature we must have a diagnostic.... In private I have Ross Tech and on my yob we have Odis (official v.a.g service) Temperature of the oil is important to save mechatronic components. ;)
