I have the real pleasure of playing in a band with Chris and he is a the real deal. Not only is he a very talented all round sax player (4 different sax he plays) but a really nice bloke who I’m proud to call my friend . His guidance and leadership are so important to us and he manages to do this in such a nice way. I’ve heard his performance at this gig….absolutely outstanding
Super video and interview with Chris Nigel. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at the Sax School Weekender a couple of years ago and he was an absolute gent as well as a fabulous sax player, so thrilled for him that he is out there doing his thing! I can relate to much of it having played piano as a duo in a residency gig but have yet to venture out solo on sax so this is both informative and inspiring. 👍

Thanks Greg. Glad you enjoyed this
The right playlist is always a challenge. One of the most interesting solo gigs I played was for a New Year's Eve party a few years ago at a "posh" club. I prepared my 45 minute playlist and did a sound-check with the DJ, but when the club started filling up I realized my playlist was not "on target." I spontaneously told the DJ just to play his (House) music and would I improvise along with it. I played for 45 minutes straight and it turned out to be one of the most fun gigs ever, and it was well received.

I think that’s how DJ sax works. Improvising over what ever the dj plays. Not easy if you can’t improvise.
Brilliant video Nigel. The best one yet. Thanks Chris for those tips. Every thing he said made sense. 👍

Great video. I play solo sometimes. Have done about 8 gigs so far. Hard work and can be stressful. Sound levels fine for me. Must be your set up.

Cool. Glad you enjoyed it Andi.
Nigel, great vid but sort your volumes out mate! You need to closer mic him - he's so quiet I've got everything turned up here and still struggle to hear what he's saying. Then we cut to you in a link and you blow my ear drums out.

I agree about the audio if you're not going to do it in the video editing software I often suggest level later from the conversation networks. It's free app you leave on your desktop drag the wave file to it drop it on and it levels all the audio for you and it saves it right in the same folder where you created have the original file

Thanks John, good point - we filmed this one on the fly with a single mic.

Gastro pub..... not very appetizing for a French speaker. :-)
