This easy and simple demonstration would be very helpful for me if it works well when I try it by myself. When I try this method, how do I place the coconut half inside the steamer? Hard shell side up or down? I suppose the shell side down would be a better choice for the steam to distress the meat quickly and perhaps it will also retain coconut flavor by preventing oozing / loss of coconut oil during the steaming process. Now I would like to compare this method with others by clicking one or two links on my R.H.S. Thank you!.

I'm going to assume not it's only steaming it for 10 minutes to moisten the skin so you can peel the flesh away coconut meat is quite thick and dense, also you can put it in a pre-heated oven at 450 for 10 minutes (open side of the coconut facing down and the shell facing the heat) then you can pull the meat away if you are worried about the flavour with the oven at least it's less likely to be worst

He said to steam it, not emerce it in water but steam it. By doing so, it cause the meat to shrink from the shell, so it release from it quickly. If not just put it outside in the hot sun and it will shring away just the same, just will take a bit longer. Longer you leave out there, it just shrink away from the nut totally. If leave in sun for say 3 days, makes the best coconut oil as you can literally see rhe oil coming out or feel it on the nut when you touch it.

In Kerala (the land of coconuts), we use each and every thing of a single coconut fruit. The tender sprouts are usually eaten raw but I saw someone cook it on Instagram. However, mature coconut flesh is chipped or scraped and is added to the curries to make them flavoured. It is sometimes roasted, fried and eaten raw. It is also used to make oil.

It doesn't taste different if boil, but will taste slightly different if we roast it or fry it. The flavour remains the same.

A coconut consists of three eyes at one end. One is a distant one while the other two are adjacent. So if we strike once or twice in the middle of the coconut on the side of "adjacent eyes", it will break easily. We do it like this in Kerala, India.

Just about to use the hot water technique - for the first time. This coconut was really hard to get out from the shell so I thought to check for an easier way...Cut it through, husk and all myself. 🙂 It's sold husk free in the shops but when you have access straight from the tree itself, you've got to deal with husk and all. 😁
