I recently just decided to start my own business making polymer clay earrings! I have researched so much! While research, I came across your videos and just want to thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks. I know it’s hard for some creators to share their tips and tricks because it’s kind of like a secret. But you are so selfless to share all of yours and I have already learned SO much from watch your videos. So THANK YOU!

Thank you so much! I totally understand and appreciate wanting to preserve unique, artistic techniques, but I also think helping each other grow as artists is important too! Imagine your favorite musician or author. If they weren't taught the basics by others, we wouldn't be able to enjoy their unique take on the craft today. It raises the bar for the quality of work we offer. When we all have access to the tools and knowledge we need to create, the creative possibilities are endless and exciting! There's room for everyone to be successful.

Hi! So glad I found your channel. I’ve been selling my polymer clay jewelry, miniature food, and sculptures for 22 years now... love seeing how the medium has evolved and become more popular. In my opinion there is no more fun or versatile medium out there and I love how it can be made to look like almost anything- leather, suede, stone, cake, ice cream...etc. I just want to commend you- you give great advice that’s really helpful, and will help a lot of people avoid the most common mistakes when they first start out. I’ve been baking my work on ceramic tiles and tenting with foil for over two decades now and so happy to hear you give such solid advice! New subscriber here!

Hello just wanna ask if can i use rebold's aluminum foil in baking
I just baked the most beautiful earrings and they broke. im so hurt!!! 😭😭😭 thank you so much for taking the time to share your tips!!!
I recently came across your videos, love that your setup is so professional. Thank you for the great tips and the way you present everything, including the merchandising and packaging side of running a home business 😀
You are awesome! You are helping me sooo, but sooo much. It's has been aleeady 4 days since I've discovered you, and whatch your videos❤️❤️❤️🙏🤗 thank you so much for what you are doing for us!❤️
You are a wonderful teacher! Your explanations are so clear and understandable, also detailed.
Wow, thank you for sharing your experiences with us, it actually means a lot, sharing is caring and i appreciate it. Thank youu I'll stay tuned to your videos.
This was so help full!! i'm only 16 and this video really made sense and was very easy to understand...Glad i found you!.
I love your video’s and thank you for all the information you give us. I have been inspired by your awesome work. I’ve started making earrings myself but am stuck on the cooking part. I have tried everything and just a few get fully cooked. The rest break. I have tried leaving them longer and even less time but no luck. I am definitely not giving up. You give such a beautiful vibe that helps me not give up. I will figure this out and keep going. Thank you for all you do!!!
Thank you for this great tip for baking it longer, very helpful!
Thanks pal, been struggling with consistency but you've pointed out what I'm doing wrong! Ordered a thermometer right now !!
I love baking on white cardstock . Thank you for your videos xx
Can you do a video where you are actually doing the baking process!
would love a video about how to best condition clay! especially premo sculpey
Thank you! (-: Good tips, especially the one about placing something (e.g. a ceramic tile) on top of the items to be baked in order to prevent bubbling. I'll definitely try this out.
Thank you so much I just got some clay and supplies to make earrings 💗 I love all your video !
Thank you for the tips. My nephew and I, we are baking his polymer clay figurines he made.
Thank you for the tips I’ve been having trouble with bubbling so I may try a lighter ceramic tile on top to see if that helps
Loved this video! The tips were great, thank you :)
Thank you so much for your tips! I will definitely try some of them to get my sculptures to bake better. I didn't see this question answered, though. So, I'd like to ask you. I make little dragons with my clay and am having difficulty not burning the thinner parts of my work, like a long neck/head or tails. How do I get an even bake across the varying thicknesses that won't cause a shiny mark on the clay, like I've had some foil cause, when it touches on parts of the piece? Thanks again for the tips. I'm sure they will help with some of my issues.
Such a helpful video. Thank you so much! which tiles should I use to bake the clay under?
Thank you for this video! I am starting to work with clay, these are very helpful tips. ❤️🌵✌🏻
This was very helpful because I wasn't fully prepping my clay properly and was baking long enough in fear of burning the clay. My earrings were crumbling after baking. I thought I had to buy some sort of sealant to help protect the clay. Thank you.
Thank you for your videos! What’s the process after baking can I take it out of the oven ASAP and let it sit out on the bench?
Great advice. Thank you!
Hello Lisa you are awesome for sharing your tips with us:) I have a problem, I recently just started working with polymer clay and I use UV resin hard to seal it but I seem not to be getting the results I expected to get. firstly the resin flattens with no shine at all, no dome, the edges of the earring bends upwards and creates some sort of depression in the middle of the jewellery piece and when it comes to drilling it lifts off my polymer surface. now I asked for help before and I was told that I should extend my curing time, did that but the outcome was the same. might it be the brand of the resin that I am using or is there something that I am still doing wrong? please help me:(
I had tons of problems baking my clay in my gas oven then finally bought a good electric countertop oven. That was the solution but I couldn't good much as a time. Even in the electric one I found I needed to bake on ceramic tiles to get the result I wanted. Then a friend of mine who had been working with polymer clay for years gave me a 12x12 tile to bake in my gas oven on. She also said to cover my time with a foil baking pan. I'd always disliked the flat shiny backs my baked clay had so began laying my pieces down on a piece of cotton T-shirt. It worked perfectly. The last tip I was given that works beautifully is when I'm baking round beads. I found really thin skewers I use and place those on top of a foil baking pan. To keep the holes from getting that strange stretch from hanging on the skewer - lay a couple layers of cheesecloth under the cheesecloth - like a sling that 'just' supports the beads but doesn't life them up any higher.
Hi Thank you so much for the video it was very informative. I am thinking of making earrings out of polymer and had a question. Is it safe to bake the clay in our kitchen oven?
I purchased a silicone baking sheet to bake on because I can use it as a work surface and a baking surface without needing to transfer the soft clay, was this a good idea or will I have issues baking on the silicone?
Wow so helpful! Thank you
Thank you so much , your videos help me a lot of 😍😍
Thanks for all your help!! I am hoping to start making some earrings soon...but was wondering what the actual temp is supposed to be for baking.
I love the video!! I have a questionn, do I have to put some paper down the earrings when they are baking?
What kind of oven do you suggest I purchase for a beginner? And I love your videos, they are very informative and detailed. Thank you for making this information available. I have been wanting to make polymer clay earrings for over a year now. I just keep doing research to motivated me to just go for it.
Hi, what the best surface material to use to roll out clay on? I have a marble top but has all sorts of scratches on it so it marks up the back of my pieces....
Love the videos! 💕 what is the best technique to get a clean, smooth earring back? I haven't seen any videos yet that show how the earrings end up looking in the back. Thank you!

Hi there, I am new to polymer clay. I followed all your tips and it turned out great. I am having problems with the back of the earrings. It looks rough and when I sand it, it doesn't look nice. Are polymer clay back supposed to look like that or can I achieve a perfect back also?
Very informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Wendy from Australia 🙂🙂🙂

If I want a drape or wrinkle texture in my piece that I can’t put tiles over, what can I do? Maybe bake it in a low temp and longer time?
This videos was so helpful! Yesterday was my first time baking and i noticed that my thicker clay pieces hardened more than the thin ones. i’m still confused on that. maybe i should bake them separately?
Thank you I will try changing the temperature
Hi, yours is the first tutorial/how-to that I am watching, so thank you so much for your wonderfully informative channel. I am wondering (because I dont have an 'oven' I can devote to this) - could I use an air-fryer as my oven to back the clay? I have one that rarely, if ever, browns the food I cook, so, because I can get a very low heat, and air will move very freely around the items I bake, I thought this might be a good thing to use. What do you think?
@jls12341000
3 жыл бұрын
No. You cannot cook it in an air fryer. Get a toaster or mini convection oven.
how do you bake your clay without pieces breaking because they are thinner than other parts of the sculpture? Like for example: the long skinny horns of a dragons or vines to some plants. Also if you are making a sculpture, can you build one part, bake it, build the other part onto that, and bake it again? (double baking)
I love your videos !!
I would be interested in seeing a visual of this, like for the placing a sheet on the clay. Does the texture of the paper or the sheet not get pressed into the clay? As well as getting smushed?
Thank you so much! Your KZread really helped me!
So I do bake with a second baking sheet on top of my pieces (as long as I don't have sculpted pieces anyway) and I'm still getting bubbles rising. My pieces also appear perfectly flat going into the oven but when I'm sanding them, it becomes obvious that the edges were raised (almost as if the whole piece was slightly dome shaped) I did finally order a pasta machine (Literally yesterday!) So I'm hoping that will help me with the conditioning phase but I'm wondering if there are any other steps I should take? Either way, thanks for sharing these videos, they have been incredibly helpful ❤
Great video. This is very helpful!

The advantage of the ceramic tile you can work on it AND bake on it.
Thank you for this information
thank you so much. I am having brittle, clay literally every batch is breaking. This didn't happen in the beginning but all of a sudden I am so confused. I really hope getting the thermometer will help. Thank you so much!
what jump ring sizes do you use for connecting your pieces?
What is the best way to pick up earrings that you just made, moving them to a different surface, without ruining the shape you just made?
Thank you
Do we keep the clay piece on the tile it was backed on until it cools completed ? Are can i place on a cool tile to cool? Are will the piece go into shock .
Hey, maybe you can answer my question. I baked Fimo earrings between 2 ceramic tiles and 2 sheets of printing paper for an hour with 110° Celsius and they break. Do you have an idea, whats the reason? Is it possible to put the pieces back in the oven and bake them again for maybe half an hour? Thank you :-)
Thank you for this video. I have a relatively new oven, but no thermometer. I am cooking on a tile at the recommended temp (premo) and for 60 mins and it's still breaking after a small amount of bending. I am thoroughly conditioning my clay and I'm at a loss as to what's going on and I'm about to give up!!! I thought working with sheet metal was hard, but this stuff takes the cake!!

Which brand of clay do you use for jewellery?
Where do you purchase your polymer clay? I have just started my business but am having some trouble finding clay in bulk. Thank you!
Hi! I'm a little bit paranoid than ceramic tile can be toxic. What do you think? I have juste an oven so I want to be sure that i'ts not dangerous. Thank you!!
Which oven mode do I use for polymer clay?
Can you do a video on jewelry findings? Where to buy them? How to add them properly? Thank you!
I want to ask. I have followed your baking tips. I am baking with Fimo Professional. My clay comes out a light pink, anything I am still doing wrong?
1:35 she starts explaining. Thank you for sharing you information 😊
Hi there! I’m really enjoying your videos. I’m an aspiring maker so I’m just messing around with clay and tools trying to learn as much as I can. Can you give advice on attaching the stud post to the polymer clay. How do you prep? What glue would you suggest. Right now I’m experimenting with embedding and it’s so tedious but I’m afraid that glue won’t hold months down the line.

I just recently started making earrings as well! Idk if this a long term solution, but I use gorilla super glue (gel kind) to attach the Earring post then add a small layer of clay to the back and bake it again. It seems to work for me so far, so I hope that helps some :)
@theslowhaus
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! This is a great question and a topic I will definitely cover in the near future. A little advice in the meantime, embedding is a very secure way to attach a post, although tedious. I personally use a strong gel adhesive. Because polymer clay is slightly flexible, the gel can flex with the movement and shape of the jewelry components rather than snapping if it were to flex in some way. I hope that is helpful for now and stay tuned for more info!

Abdaly Lopez I just picked up the gorilla glue 2 part epoxy. Not sure if that’s the kind you use. I tried E6000 and it didn’t hold well. I will try your technique and see if that works. Thanks for the advice.

Of Clay Jewelry I plan to experiment with embedding very soon. Can’t wait to see more vids they’ve been really helpful.
Is it necessary to preheat oven everytime before baking jewelry? What you do?
I have one question, I have just started to make some polymer clay earrings but sometimes they do not stay flat once baked. Do you have any recommendations?
Could I use modge podge to soften and seal it before cooking ?
Hi, I’m new to polymer clay world. Yesterday I did my very first piece and baked it for 10 min with 100 °C but only in ten minutes my clay lost its color. i mean it was a very vibrant pink but it turned into a dusty pink color and there was fumes coming from it. Also it was’t stiff and kinda bendable. I don’t know what did I do wrong :( how can i avoid this in my future projects?
Hi, really like your tips and tricks. I want to ask you is there any other way to heat the clay other than the oven and microwave ?
@pixiethepuppy678
3 жыл бұрын
I’m not to sure either I’m not an expert but try using air dry clay!! You won’t need to bake it :)
Lots of nice bits of info. The #1 tip for anyone should be follow the manufacturers directions. Different brands bake at different temperatures. And pay attention to measurements. If it says bake 1/4” thick piece for 20 min at 275f, if your piece is 1/2” thick you bake for at least 40 minutes. Never bake at higher than recommended. And bake multiple times. If it’s a layered piece bake each time you put a raw piece on. Always bake covered on UNglazed porcelain or ceramic or pizza stone. The problem is almost always the piece is underbaked, your oven is too hot, or you’re applying paint or other coatings that shouldn’t be baked. Test test test before you ruin a piece you’ve worked so hard on.
Hello, do you know what my earrings lifted up or bent up while baking? Maybe they’re too thin?

So you're saying I can manipulate time and space with my polymer clay? Such a multifaceted, multi-dimensional substance! Lol. Love your videos keep them coming plz..
I only have one question do I need any type of glue to make it stick together? I am afraid to bake it cause I don't want it to fall or I don't want to press too hard ruining the shape I want it.
Can you please help me? I have baked my clay earrings on a glass tray, I have gotten a thermometer and put it just as the instructions said at 130° C. The brand is sculpey. I use baking sheet on top of the clay but it keeps breaking, I bake it for an hour not 10 mins, I bake it for 1 hour at 130° and turn of the oven and leave the jewelry in the oven for another hour with the oven turned off so the jewelry can cool. I also preheat the oven for about 15-20 mins, please help me I don’t know what else to do I have tried 3 batches and all of them turned out the same, I have tried different thicknesses in the same batch each time and same results, there isn’t any discoloration...Idk what to do I have so many pieces ready to bake but I’m scared they will all turn out the same
With clay! When you bake it, I have a toaster oven, is it normal to slightly smoke a bit, everything’s on correct instructions
what temp do you bake yours at?

If I’m using Fimo and Sculpey III combined and they each ask for different bake times/temperatures, how long should I bake it for? Fimo asks for 30 min at 230° F and 275° F for Sculpey III? I’m not sure what to do and I don’t want to ruin my earring cut outs!
What kind of oven do you use @ofclayjewelry
what brand of clay do u use? 🥰

How do you put the back post on earrings? What’s the best technique to keep them from popping off?

Great question! I will cover this topic in the next few weeks! Stay tuned!!
Can I ask how long you have been using polymer clay? Just curious?
Have you tried a toaster oven or do you use a conventional oven?
So what temperature you bake your clay?
Which oven do you recommend
I have a question! How do you add glitter to your polymer clay without liquid clay? Also i heard glitter shouldn't be baked in the oven because it will discolour.
If mine is breaking. Do I need to lower the temp and up the cooking time?
@mrsk8383
3 жыл бұрын
never lower the temp! if you bake it at lower temps all the polymers will not meld together and you will risk breaking your pieces.
What temp do I do it at?
What temperature do you bake your earrings at? I had been doing mine for 15 minutes at 275 and lots of my earrings have been breaking. Now I know to cook it for longer, but you never mentioned a recommended temp. Thanks :)
