    Hello, thanks so much for your kind comment! You’re very welcome, I love sharing tips and tricks, so I’m glad you found the videos helpful! I have worked with air dry clay before, but I much prefer polymer because you can take your time with making things, whereas with air dry clay, I find you have to work a bit quicker. I also found air dry to be more fragile when it’s dried. Also, you can buy pre-coloured polymer clay, which I think is so much easier! Although, air dry does have its uses, I love polymer way more! I hope these help! ☺️💕

    You're very welcome! I set mine to 'turbo', which has both the upper and lower heating rods on, plus the inbuilt fan which helps to evenly distribute heat. If yours doesn't have a fan, I would suggest heating from the top and bottom, so it heats equally 💕☺

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    Жыл бұрын

    I have! For me, it wasn’t very good quality compared to brands like Sculpey or Fimo. The hardness wasn’t too great, and was very brittle, almost the same as Sculpey III on its own. I also just couldn’t get the clay to stop bubbling up, I tried everything with different techniques to minimise it, but didn’t have any luck. It’s a great price, but sadly, it’s a clay I wouldn’t recommend. 💕☁️

    What if I have a larger sculpture but it has smaller attached pieces like ears/arms? Wont the smaller parts be over baked while the larger part bakes?

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    6 ай бұрын

    That should be fine. As long as the temperature in the oven is correct and your clay is tented to help avoid scorching, you can bake for hours without a problem. There’s no such thing as over baking, a lot of my designs have smaller pieces attached, in comparison to the size of the charm, and it bakes perfectly ☺️💕

    Thank you so much! So glad it was helpful! Yes, you can paint before or after baking, just make sure that the paint is compatible with the clay brand, first. I would always paint a small test area in an unnoticeable spot and leave it for a few days. If it dries, go ahead and paint the rest, if it remains sticky, you need to find another paint brand until it works. 💕☺️

    You can use aluminium foil as an alternative but I personally don’t like using it. It does tend to leave some shiny spots on the base of the clay, but you could also try plain printer paper, it won’t leave marks. 💕

    Hi(: When the piece is in the oven, should I regulate the temperature?

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! I would test the oven before putting any of your proper pieces in. Once you get it up to a stable and steady temperature, keep checking/monitoring your thermometer when the clay is in the oven. I would avoid making any changes to temperature once the clay is inside the oven, it could cause you to bake at the wrong temperature causing breaking or burning. 💕

    Why do you have to pre heat the oven? Is it bad if at the start of the baking the temperature is lower?

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    6 ай бұрын

    Preheating the oven ensures that your clay starts off the baking process at the proper temperature needed to bake the plasticisers in it. Most ovens, during the preheating stage will start off at a cool temperature, suddenly spike at a very high temperature, then gradually come down to what you’ve set it at. Sometimes, it won’t, but I would say to preheat just as a precaution, and test your oven first, so you understand how the cycle works in your particular one. I always preheat to make sure that the spike in temperature in my oven has finished before placing my clay in, otherwise it will burn, wasting all my hard work! 💕

    How do you bake pendants that need to stay flat but they have raised texture on the back and front so I’m worried if I lay flat on the baking base, the detail will get smushed? So what baking technique can I use for raised textured on the backs and fronts of pendants? Or if I have earrings that have detail all around like I’m making crescent moons with a snake wrapped all around, how would I bake them without smushing or affecting the detail of the snake and the texture of the moon? I only find videos on baking beads on a bead rack, or how to bake flat pendants or earrings so they remain flat but none of them have raised texture on the both the backs and fronts? Should I hang my pendants on a bead rack through the eye hook since I plan on embedding the eye hooks while baking (for more permanent bond)? I’ve thought of putting them in a bowl of cornstarch but I’m painting my pieces with pan pastels and I’m worried the corn starch will stick to my clay once baked and adhere to the pan pastels on the clay, or will that not happen? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much 💜

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    10 ай бұрын

    Because you have a lot of detail in your piece, I would bake the pendant in a bed of cornstarch, to retain them as much as you can, building more starch around any raised or delicate areas for extra support. Just don’t leave the piece on the starch for too long before baking, as it would leach the oils from the clay and make it brittle. Bake it immediately after placing it in. I would also extend the baking time by at least 30 minutes as it takes the heat to reach all the way through the starch. You could try the other method as well, with a test piece to see how well it bakes compared, just for future reference. As for the Pan Pastels, I personally haven’t done the technique of dusting with colour and baking in the cornstarch, so I would do a small tester piece to see what happens. I suspect it should be okay, since the pastels should leave a layer around the raw piece, it shouldn’t rub off once baked and when removing the starch on it, but definitely test on another piece just to be sure! 💕 If in doubt, I would always test. ☺️

    @@Cloudfettithank you! Not sure if I asked this but if you do prebakes for sections you want to not lose detail so you can then add more detail to your sculpture. How long would you do prebakes for? I always see ace of clay bake the body for 30 min then every other section 30 min and then the final bake for an hour? Or I heard some say just enough to firm it up a bit to work on it without affecting the detail, so they prebake for 15 or 20 min? So I’m so confused how do they gauge how long to do prebakes for sections of their sculptures? Thank you Edit: I think I get how they figure out the prebakes, some do 15 min because super sculpey says for 1/4 inch do 15 min and for other clays like premo or cos clay it’s 30min!! So I think I’m getting it thanks to your amazing thorough tutorials! You are a great teacher!!!!!! Of course I’ll do test tiles once my cos clay arrives! I’m so excited!!!!!!!!

    @NataliaArtist Could you describe the type of detail you’re wanting pre-bake and the type you want to add to your piece? Depending on what you’re doing, you may want to fully bake your clay, then add more to it after, or just go ahead and pre-bake. I usually gauge it by the size of the piece that I’m creating (they’re usually pretty small!). What size would yours be? ☺️

    You mention plaquing / mooning in translucent clay, how do you prevent this from happening please?

  • @Cloudfetti

    @Cloudfetti

    Жыл бұрын

    To lessen it, I add a tiny amount of solid/opaque coloured clay into the mixture. I like the result with this method, I add just enough white or beige (depending if I’m using white translucent or just the normal version) so that it doesn’t lose its translucency, but still has the effect. I haven’t tried these, but I’ve read that you can preheat your oven with the clay inside slowly, so it slows down the process. Others have said it’s from moisture/oils seeping in when conditioning, so they wear gloves while doing so. There are brands that plaque/moon more than others. In the video, I used Super Sculpey for the example, but I’ve found that Cernit and Kato are the least likely to do it. I hope this helps! Happy experimenting! 💕
