Anyone who sticks a metal screwdriver carelessly into the power section of a radio is not anywhere near knowledgeable enough to "peak and tune" a radio of this proportion.

Spring the coils causes harmonic's on the main Spike we look at it in a spectrum analyzer

tr-24 being removed is a limiter, it keeps your voice from sounding like crap when you reach peak modulation by speaking into the microphone, removing the limiter allows you to show more on the meter because yes your doing a tad bit more wattage however, it starts sounding like garbage on top end of modulation thus giving you dirty sounding audio on AM and possibly sideband, im still learning myself but thats what i learned thus far

@@jlmoo1 Seen it many times myself. Spread coils do in fact make it a splatterbox. I've been repairing and tuning radios for quite a while and while it may look good on your meter, it is certainly a VERY DIRTY transmitter. My own Cobra radios generally have a dead key of 4 Watts, swing upwards of 20W with a good clean signal and a tad over 100% modulation. Looks pretty damn good on my scope too.

@@jlmoo1 I can fix it for you, and not only do a real repair on it and then tune it properly. But with these older radios, it will cost you some money that I don't know if you're willing to spend. By the way, I voted Trump too.
