How to Pass The Open Guard: Complete Guide 2022
Спорт
Passing the open guard is one of the most difficult and frustrating things in BJJ. This video I show a basic system that can be used at every level. I focus on the principles of threatening passing the open guard before your opponent establishes grips. I discuss a game plan for how to approach every main position your opponent can be in. This is the best tutorial ever! I struggle to pass open guard because most of the time I just don't know what to do. You put it simple and conceptual, instead of focusing on what to do, you explain why and how, which is extremely useful and easier to understand!!!! Thank you so much I'll start drilling more :)
Amazing tutorial! Tomorrow is going to be an absolute banger of a disappointment when I'll try all this and get sweep as usual :) but I will succeed in the end! thanks very much for all your hard work, your pedagogy is superb!
That chest over chest tip is gold. I see that that is probably the reason I don't quite pass guard enough. That and that I don't go to class enough!
How has this not got more views and comments? concise descriptions, absolutely game changing for me. You have such a great teaching style.
Thank you for helpful instructionals! Keep up the great work!
Gold. You do a great job of simplifying it and making it understandable.
Amazingly articulated loving your vids 👊
Thanks Jon, great details and instruction as always! For future passing videos, I’d like to see how you deal with different scenarios, like an opponent who has gotten underneath you (e.g. half guard with deep underhook) or elevated you (e.g. butterfly guard). Thank you!
Thank you for your instructionals!! They are incredibly helpful and appreciated
Absolutely gold!! Thank you! I'll be watching this a few times
Great video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I can remember only so many techniques, but these concepts are much easier to manage.
I'm pretty new to BJJ, so I may not be able to pull off some of these against more experienced grapplers, but the concepts you present here have already been helpful in getting a little bit closer. Great advice!
This was incredible, thank you!
Best videos on guard passing, thank you
One of the few videos on KZread that is worth watching again.
Great run through!!!
Golden concepts and techniques to remember. Really good. Thanks again!

Thanks a lot really happy to hear you are enjoying the instructional!
Top class video!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😄
Quality conceptual video as always, trying to improve guard passing at blue belt level. This has massively helped. As a lighter athlete do you prefer to attack from side control or mount? I am 77kg and find heavier opponents are harder to attack from mount.
Great video thank you so much
Love your videos. Thank you!

Thanks buddy! The big overviews matter a lot, tricky to make but they really help organize the systems in your head.
I wait for these videos like a hypebeast does for a Yeezy drop. lol

That's so interesting. Do any branches besides the Army have BJJ in their training? Would love to know the history behind this and how it came to be.
Awesome!👍
The whole not letting them get grips part is the catch 😂
Galbu un genio!! Oss

Reminds me of the Ruotolo Bros, they are always using side to side motion instead of a through motion.
Late comment, but this content is miles above what gyms are teaching these days.

I'm struggling to pass the open guard when my opponent is sitting up. As soon as I get inside positioning with one of my legs I loose it to one of his legs and in up in a leg entanglement. Or it's hard to push him to his back because he will get grips. Would love some advice!

@@JonThomasBJJ thank you sir
I just get kicked away when I try to close in. When I try to grap their legs they just kick and spasm around so I risk breaking my fingers when reaching out. Any tips?
It's crazy how everyone can play open guard against me and have me subbed within a minute, but if I play open guard they pass in 5 seconds and I'm now bottom side controlled... 😂 I hate everything about open guard... I'd rather just tell the guy to stand back up and try to get past the legs before we're both on the ground.

We have quite a few higher belts who give great feedback on what I am doing wrong when playing open guards, but it sure is a learning process. I find that if you have to stop and think, chances are that your guard is already passed.
Ah snap! Like buttah!

It all seems so simple. Then I remember I’m 5’5. Chest over chest is soo far away lol
If anyone has a triangle sweep instructional it would be you. Can you point me to a closed guard triangle sweep? 🔺️
@9:29
I tried a toriando today and 360'd my opponent lmao. Task failed successfully. My best pass is smash into 1/4 guard and slither into mount like a degenerate.
😎
