My son has just been glued to this, he's now off for a run, he's 15, just signed up should be off to afc Harrogate in Sept, his heart is set on the paras, he was in the cadets, even picked the Hebburn branch in Tyneside so he could wear the para cap badge ha ha, can't wait to follow his journey

@alpine1609 ex 3 para and if I could give your son any advice which I also got from 1 para lads. If you can run non stop for an hour then by time you enter basic training the rest should come a lot easier. Good luck to him!
A notoriously great bloke - best ambassador for the Reg and PF. Met him at JATE and was just blown away by his knowledge and expertise. Plus - incredibly warry, and funny.

Sounds like an amazing career. Sorry to say I would never encourage a youngster to join the military now and fight in wars for our corrupt leaders. But Bravo for your service.

Excellent mate , loved listening from a brother from marines did 25yrs did 40 Cdo Rms Recce for 3 yrs was best ever time as marine did my para course 91 , ship’s diving cse , then MSI skiing cse , we had 2 paras attached to us 92 / 93 I think for Norway, one lad went on ML,s course too , Think the other ended up RSM his surname was WAG , wagy great guy ! Oh they were terribly bad at skiing lol they put their snow shoes on lol 😂, skiing with 90 / 100 LB Bergens on wasn’t there game as we did it every year for 3/4 on the trot , plus military skiing is hard to learn ,as you probably know buddy, I left as a sergeant and was in the PTI Branch, then got a job as MCO in Dubai , your guys did a similar job in a sister camp , hope all is well buddy keep up the great work inspiring young talent
What a bloke!
What a great inspiring character, absolutely awesome career and still motivating the next generation. Hero!

Nice One Tom, excellent and to the point. My tabbing days are well over due to two ankle fusions, but try my best with Wild Camping & Bushcraft. I joined a year before you in ‘87 at 16 as J/Sdr Infantry. 6 Months Training then onto Depot. The Juniors were a fine thing and should never have been stopped, most lads I knew & trained with gained Senior Rank or Comissioned, so a great breeding ground as you know. Keep Well Brother.

Absolute respect to you Sir. You are professional with a calm and warm personality a natural leader of men whom many would follow, you should be proud of your achievements and commitments past and present. I started my military career with A Coy 4 Para, Grace Road, Liverpool and went on to join the Regs REME and completed 24 years as Artificer Sergeant Major having served with both Para Regt LPBG, 7 Para RHA, 23 PFA with American Wings and some truly magical memories

Awesome video, be great if you had a weekend event that covered field admin , navigation and SF marches - so one could come get up to speed on everything needed to pass courses correct and phiz level. And a jungle selection course would be fun so lads can prep and learn given best chance to pass mil courses and selection in that environment 🇬🇧
Great interview. Fascinating. Respect to you Sir.

The big unanswewd qusetion of Para depot is where they got those one size fits no one red T shirts from , i could get in mine throught the neck and the blue PT shorts came in 24" or 56" waist only. 😂
I notice how he does not mention the Paras hard fought Londonderry battle on January 30th in 1972. It might be forgotten now but the Paras showed how training, courage and bravery can win against any enemy in Londonderry. They all risked their lives and showed exemplary discipline, restraint and judgement. I think all of the British Army should try to live up to the high standards that the Parachute Regiment displayed that day.

Really respect both regular, and reservist Paratroop Regiments, but not so keen with CFAVs badged with Paratrooper Regiment badge wearing the black beret. Used come across a civilian who worked at one of the USAFE bases in East Anglia wearing a maroon t shirt with the standard para motif, no mention on it he was ACF. Contacted the local ACF HQ, their attitude was NFI. Personally regard it as stolen valour.
Get Tom back on to talk about being filmed for the “Phantom Platoon” documentary on the Pathfinders. It was an episode of “Defence of the Realm” on the BBC Need his advice on Cr@ping into a bag

Cracking documentary that is. It made me read up about PF PL. It was founded in 1985. Dennis Hayes, the Sgt in the documentary was one of the original members, along with Chris Waddington (RIP), Baz Grayling (RIP) and Ian 'Dinger' Pring (Member of 22 SAS Bravo Two Zero Patrol)

Elite in there eyes lol the rest of the infantry just roll there eyes (u know I’m messing around we just look at the paras as a solid infantry unit)
Why did he say ‘terrorist incident’ after correcting himself from saying ‘terrorist attack’?

Probably due to some sort of stupid political restrictions on language used.
Nice summary Tom. Total respect for you. Youve obviously worked hard and had good career. Good ambassador for future recruits. I think cubs scouts and cadets should be compulsory in this sost as shit woke world. I can remember MOD banning us from killing rabbits and chickens when teaching combat survival to other units. Mid 90s. It beggared belief.
