How to Paint Your Miniature Bases

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I will show you how to paint three different types of base for your miniatures. These three themes cover most colour schemes you are likely to paint your miniatures in.
I also give some general advice on how to choose colours for your base and a few other things I think you should keep in mind.

This is a really great tutorial. I feel that a model painted to battle ready standard on a well presented base looks better than a model that’s been really well highlighted and edged that has no base detail at all. That’s not to say that your models shown aren’t bad they look amazing! Keep up the awesome work 👍

I wouldn't recommend seraphim sepia since it has a satin/glossy finish which is a bit strange on a desert base

Do you always build and paint your bases separately? For example with the Imperial Fist how did you go about attaching him to the base? Did you pin with wire/paperclip or did you stick with superglue? This was a really great video and great to think about the colours and what the aim for with the mid tones.

I normally do, yeah. Just because I like to be able to get into every nook and cranny on the model. That Imperial Fist is a push fit mini. So I just left the hole in the base and slipped him in when he was done. I normally paint my minis attached to corks with toothpicks or those crocodile clip sticks that Mecha guys tend to use. I hope this helps.

Huzzah, glad you validated my black rims on my Space Wolves, I was worried there for a mo I do struggle with my Deathwatch though, but as they're mostly on Wraithbone/Eldar style bright bases, I think they stand out enough, but I'm open to advice

I watched around 20 videos on basing miniatures. Yours is my favourite. It covers everything I wish for 👍👍👍 PS: How did you make the concrete plates in the last base?

Thanks, that means a lot. The concrete slabs are just plasticard. I have another video on plasticard bases, if you were interested.

Would the urban base colours work for a fantasy wasteland setting as well (Warcry) or do the colours look to much like concrete? I want to base all my minis with grey wateland so they work in Warcry and du du dugoncrawlers alike.

I dont see why not. I would probably use the same greys, but make the cement between then a light brown/tan and maybe get some pigments in there too. I would also cut the plasticard into more irregular shapes so they dont look like mass produced slabs, more like cobblestone. I hope this helps.

Thanks. I think I might have missed the boat on Blackstone Fortress, but I'd definitely consider it if they bring the setting back at all. If you are interested, I have a rough guide on how I made them on my Instagram. That may be worth a look.

No worries. I enjoy making stuff like this. I'm just glad you find it useful. My method for the ice base is very similar to this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4BouZOzh7LZmrg.html I hope this helps.
