    This is the 1st tutorial ive watched that made sence to me. Others seem to rush through the highlights without showing exactly what color or in a order i can follow. I have several 1/6 and 1/16 faces ive been using as my practice heads and faces. Once i wake up a little more im going to spend the entire day trying to get my heads and faces looking as close as possible to this video. Ill actually post them once im happy with how they turn out. 1 thing i realize i was doing was rushing the process and attempting to paint the next shade or wash to soon. Thank you so much

    This is the best tutorial ever, also very cheap! Not all of us can use and buy pastels. The only intimidating step would be varnish since it's not the same i would get in my country (argentina) that other people would have easy access to. It's cool to see that you used mostly paint and just used pastels for just some parts

    Such a great video, so many great tips as I’m currently painting an Iron Man “Snap” print. A couple of questions. Are you using a Matt varnish before applying the pastels to help bond them, also are you using plain water to dilute your paint or is it water with a flow enhancer or thinners? A great tip I’ve picked up for getting the pastel pigments is to use a hobby knife to gently shave them, you don’t lose anywhere as much of it sticking to a sanding strip. Love your work.

  • @3DPainting

    Hi, thanks for the kind words. I always use a varnish but not for better sticking, just to protect my current work. But yeah, it might be helpful. For thining I use a thiner, especially for parts I do care to look good, like heads. It keeps paint pigment nice and consistent. On base for example when I paint stones I don't care to use water. I use Vallejo airbrush thiner for water based acrylics btw.

  • @3DPainting

    @3DPainting

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well, imagine you work in layers. You do a wash, or sprinkle "dots", then you seal with varnish. You do this lets say 3 times. Then when you make a mistake and want to clean that mistake with a thinner, it would also destroy your other layers if you are not sealing it each time. I use a lacquer varnish which is fast drying and more resistant to acrylic thinner.

  • @3DPainting

    @3DPainting

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Greetings to SK. Sure you can, I use Revell because I found it to be closest to neutral skin color, but I mostly use paints that are easy to get in my local paint stores. So I encourage you to experiment with brands and also try to mix your own shades, I mix my own skin tone too and used this base color just for sake of content of this video, since its for beginners and they probably wont be premixing their own shades, but no worries, you will get there in no time if you like this hobby. In regards to your second question, yes, you need to do so because you cant paint over pastel if its not sealed, also you will mess up if you touch it accidentally. Just use spray can or airbrush , one or two sprays over it, give it a short blow from the hair dryer and can continue with painting. Happy painting ;)

    Good question. First of all because you might destroy it applying the washes, its quite harsh process for the paint. Another reason is to prevent washes to "bait" into base skin tone and if it does or you will make some mistakes you can remove it with acrylic varnish without damaging the base.

    @@3DPainting What do you mean "bait"? Also, does it matter if I use acrylic varnish or polyurethane varnish for this process? Thanks!

    @@barndoorbangers4364 It just stick to base and you wont be able to remove it which is not desired. Not sure about your varnishes, I just use synthetic varnish on water based colors, so its durable to it's thinner. Either something like Super Clear III from Mr Hobby or spray can like Army Painter Anti Shine.

    @@3DPainting I have both water based varnish with airbrush and lacquer based varnish from spray can. You are using lacquer based spray can over water based acrylics?

    Only varnish, not paints. I have also lacquer varnish and paints for airbrush.

    Too much repetition of washes. You can get the results with half of the work. And decal for eyes is the chicken-shit way to do it.
