How to Paint Over Gloss Skirtings - No Need to Sand Down! | DIY for Beginners
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Are your skirting boards yellowing? It’s likely because they’re painted with an oil based paint. To refresh them, and prevent them from ever yellowing again, you’ll need to paint them with water based paint. This can be a gloss, a satin or an eggshell, or even a Matt finish. But to make sure this new water based paint adheres to the existing gloss skirtings, without having to sand them back to bare wood, all you need is Zinsser BIN primer. You can paint with any paint on top within 45 mins so this is a great quick job to do over the weekend!

Brilliant video! And to be told to have a 45 minute break with a tea and a show, bloody brilliant 🫶🏼👏🏼
Thank you. That explains why the white gloss in my hall (no sunlight) has gone yellow looking and the rest is fine. Great tips 👌
Great video, very helpful, thank you. I always wondered why my gloss painted skirting and door frames turned yellow - it's a basement flat.

Better light sand to remove the shiny than relying on expensive primer. Degreaser wash. Stir well

Yes you need to sand it down first to get a ' key' . If you mark the paint subsequently the paint will mark and scuff and the old paint will show through.

Why is my Dulux solvent based satin wood paint dragging on my brush after I've still stirred it.
My doors and skirts all yellowing. Can I also paint the same way onto the gloss doors?

Yes, there is no need to sand your skirting board down to the wood before painting as you usually would with gloss paint. With any paint project, sanding between coats ensures a perfect finish
