Denatured alcohol will do a better job of removing waxes and oils during prep. Scuff lightly with an abrasive pad then lightly wipe with alcohol. Then Cheesecloth it. Then use Bulldog adhesion promoter. (always with plastics). And slow down when spraying so your pattern lays more consistently. Make sure when spraying the bulldog to keep consistent with your coverage also. It matters.

What's better bulldog or duplicolor adhesive promoter? I saw some videos of guys swearing by bulldog for years but tried some dupli and love it.

Thanks for the feedback and comparison on both products. In general if you were just trying to make the part look better the duplicolor does a good job. When you prep the surface correctly duplicolor holds. If looking for a color match the color bond is a little closer but not perfect. If all you have is a difference in sheen you can use products like Angelus matte coat or satin coat. Using a protector coating would be a start.

Good video. You could use brake clean to get all the deep rubbed in grime and oil, and follow up with with any APC, I like simple green 🍋, also using an Adhesion promotor will help another alot with paint rubbing off/getting it to stick. Love ,peace, chicken grease -Donald Ducks Plug

Great job thanks for the info, couldn't you coat it with flat clear coat to protect it and make it a shade darker.

I've found that Rust-oleum satin spray paint tends to have a color that will match just about any interior plastic. The satin black can also match exterior black trim. Edit: Rust-Oleum Satin Charcoal Grey or Satin Granite might have matched the Jeep better.

do a test on the back to know if you need to use adhesion promoter

This is why you match colors on another surface before diving into a spray job. That would eliminate wasting a bunch of paint just to realize its not the same color later. A good wash with dawn soap then some light scuffing with a gray scuff pad, followed by another dawn soap wash is all that is needed.

Agreed been doing this for years in a custom shop , adhesion promoter is just a insurance policy… but not needed when prepped correctly.

The video was great , learned alot , I am getting ready to attempt this on my sun baked 97 jeep wrangler interior , i have one really important question , on the bottom of each door is a little squared grilled storage area , when you have door panels off is it possible to remove and re-attach these , you have them masked off when you painted !! and I was considering changing my spice interior to black , is this recommended or should i stay with original color , Thanks in advance for any advice and guidance !!!!! Great Videos !!!!

you have to mask them.. the backs are melted with a soldering iron to door panel....I would NOT change interior color .. not worth it

Instead of the brush have you used a scouring pad for a pan that would be easier to clean the panels Once ,however would you use a clear coat spray to seal the paint or not and then use amour oil for protection afterwards if you need to would like your opinion Kind regards

Curious as to why an adhesion promoter wasn't applied before the first color coat?

they recommend it... but not part of the process.. you are supposed to test the paint on the back of the door panel.. if it has problems sticking then you need an adhesion promotor... some plastics may be different

Your door panels came out looking really nice! I share the same sentiments about the spray nozzles, those pos things, you'd think they include a spare one in the cap but nooo....

I believe that Colorbond is a better product and would look more like the rest of the dash panels, if the UV clearcoat in the satin finish. The color is just the dye part. The test would be best if the surface was prepped with the Colorbond prep and clearcoat.
