I'm ashamed to admit that my leviadon blue got some water into the pot, so I HAVE to use one thick coat.... It acts the same as one thin coat though, and its a lot more matte which I Love :D

I had been painting my first few Nihilakh Necrons and could never get a simple and quick way of painting the black metal gun for the warriors. Seeing your contrast paint idea was like the opening of my third eye. Thanks, Duncan. You've done it again.
Awesome! I personally paint szarekhan dynasty (and would love to see a doom stalker tutorial) and can’t wait to see what you paint next. Keep it up :)

Duncan releases one video a week for his free channel and its still more than the official channel these days... I miss the daily tips.
For the dark green cables. I recommend caliban green, then tesseract glow. You get almost the same exact effect here, but much quicker.
@LinkiePup

I found Tesseract glow works better when its spots where the “glow” is more easily believable. So like the orbs on the Cryptech, the orbs in the Gauss weapons, and as a base for Necron Blades.
I recently subscribed to your painting academy and it's been really enjoyable and helpful with understanding painting techniques and paint schemes. I had been searching for the perfect tutorial on painting the Szarekhan scheme and your videos were exactly what I was looking for all this time. Looking forward to more good tutorials/videos in 2021!
All these painting tutorials are great but I would love to see more conversion tutorials like how you made your Knight World Household guards!
Great job Duncan! You did justice to this awesome dynasty of Necrons!
This is amazing. You bring miniatures to life through detail and care that I haven't seen anywhere else.
I have not painted a model in almost 20 years but I find these videos so chill I still watch them.
Just found this tutorial and it's excellent timing. I'm planning to get started with Necrons using my Christmas giftcards... and I have a full set of Two Thin Coats paint due in January to use in copying the techniques here. Looking forward to it all and thanks so much for sharing all your knowledge with us!
Duncan has blessed us with another upload!
I love this guide. I used it last year on my first squad of Necrons Warriors, and am currently using it's techniques for my growing Nihilakh phalanx. I did make a slight modification to the steps. when it comes to the glowing gauss parts, I mix hexwraith flame with grey seer as a base then a layer of hexwraith flame. I then follow up with a highlight of Moot Green
I’ve been trying to get back into painting. I forgot how motivating it can be to just watch Duncan work. Time to binge to get in the mood before I finally paint my own
Love these tutorials, only started painting about a year ago and now I'm hooked, would love to see a Nighthaunt or Tyranid tutorial
This looks great. One of my friends (who has never bought a model before) is interested in necrons
It looks great! Thanks for sharing this.

I haven’t been into warhammer actively since late 2018 because of many reasons, I still try to find time to watch these videos even just for the nostalgia of learning to paint to Duncan’s videos on the old warhammer tv channel

Perfect! I recently got my first combat patrol box of necrons (some Warriors and Triarchs are on the way) and I'm using so many of these techniques to paint my Immortals and my overlord!
Gorgeous base!
It looks like a member of the Misfits with a blue devilock hairdo! Looks good to me, and a nice simple scheme is generally a great thing. Good work, sir!
I quickly painted my Necrons without any real paint scheme other than metal and brass, so I think I may go back over with these blues and gold! Much love to you and the team Duncan!

Glad Duncan is across how excellent Black Templar Contrast is.
Thanks for reminding me to finish painting my necrons.
Looks incredible! Would love to see tutorials for others dynasties, especially for Nephrekh, always wanted to paint a golden necron
"And this colour scheme is a real Peach too." I see what you did there.... :D Great colour scheme!
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I don't know I really like the fact you can actually hear the brush scraping against the plastic in this, brings that little bit extra texture to the video
This is the Dynasty I want to paint my Necrons from the Indomitus box so I will bookmark this video! Thanks heaps and stay safe.
I really like the idea of using that contast paint in place of a wash on the silver bits. I dont collect necrons but im going to need to use that technique.

I've been painting the Black Templar contrast over silver to do Iron Hands. Gives a nice metallic black finish. I definitely recommend it.
@xnax1993

It works great with colours, too. I've been using Talassar Blue over silver to get a nice metallic blue colour.
That trick of mixing Biel Tan Green and Cassandora Yellow is one I'm writing down. Gets a result that looks a lot cleaner than Tesseract Glow does.
@LinkiePup
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah…. But it looks dirtier on camera. I’d say either water down Moot green, or just keep using Tesseract Glow, cuz honestly. It shouldn’t be chunky, and you’re probably just not shaking it enough.
So im not going to use the blue/gold on my necrons but the rest is a new way of painting i haven't tried and tbh it looks a lot quicker and neater than what im currently doing. good stuff!!
Very cool, many thx
This is so helpfull to me. Wish it were another tutorials for like overlord or other necron troops with caratteristic details

The Army Painter cutting mat is very visually striking.
Thank you for another great video guys! Duncan seems to use the mixed shade washes for orbs and hasn't mentioned the newish citadel tesseract glow technical paint. Is that because he prefers a more yellow glow as the washes produce over the bright green of tesseract or is there a different reason?
Good job look like ready to shoot

Duncan I love your videos! I have a burning question for you. If I want to do a bright red Gauss instead that gives off that similar glow look yours does, what paints should I use for it? I've tried so many variants but they just look too dark. Your help would be so brilliant!

Straight out of the pod baby
I dont even have necrons, i just like duncans tutorials!
Great Vid first of all ^^ Really enjoyed this one. I just have a question to my Necrons i want to paint and collect. I thought of a Purple Blade(thinking of Shyish Purple and Magos Purple, contrast Citadel) but really dont know what would fit to it for the rest of the Necron. Maybe a red metallic tone ? or yellow one ? i thought of just black for the Armor or dark Metallic too^^
Awesome! Is there anyway you can do a Thokt Dynasty paint guide?! I've been back and forth on the theme.
I dont know if this is too bold of me to ask, but I recently got back into minture painting after about 4 years and you were always my idol, I followed all of your videos on WH TV and I was always amazed and left feeling that I could do it if I tried. With that in mind, would you ever do a warstomper mega-gargant painting tutorial? I understand that that's a big thing to ask, but I was always taught if you don't ask you don't get:) I love your videos now just as much as I did 4 years ago. Thank you for your amazing tutorials and brilliant advice 🙏🏻

Hi Aaron. Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot and we are glad we could help. To answer your question, we currently do not have a warstomper mega-gargant tutorial planned but we have done a full painting tutorial for the Kraken-eater Mega Gargant on our Academy Website (duncanrhodes.com). Following that guide, you should be able to do most of the Warstomper 😊
Just watched this, and I loved it, I assume this is a similar colour scheme to paint Trazyn? However when it comes to the green glow I prefer to use Corax White (I hate this paint but its all I've got at the mo) and Tesseract glow. As bases go, firstly, haw did you get the crystals, and my favourite method for bases is lately: Corax White + Tesseract glow + Mordant Earth. (The same and still eerie effect can be achieved using Blood for the Blood God in place of the Tesseract glow.)
Hello Duncan! I have just started into the hobby and picked up my first box of miniatures, skinks! I was wondering if you could made a guide on how to paint them in the cult of Sotek theme. If not perhaps you could recommend which colours to use! Thank you!
How would you recommend highlighting power armor that has a xereus purple base coat with druchii violet as shade? I've been a lucius violet drybrush as overall highlights, but looking to improve my skill level a bit...
As an Australian moot green is always the funniest thing to read on a paint colour bottle. Fellow Aussie’s you know the deal. 😂
Damn, Duncan. Only sad I had was that you didn't include the best Citadel color on this mini: Nihilakh Oxide! Loved the video!!!!
I'm guessing his Ceramite White turned into a solid mess like mine :D

Ceramite White isn't sold anymore, it was replaced by Corax White, which still isn't any better
Wow that looks great. How that gun didn't snap off I'll never know 😂
Hey Duncan think you could show us how to paint a mutualith vortex beast or just the vortex part of it? I love the model but I don’t know how to approach painting it.
Any chance we could get a video on how this would work on a bigger model with blackstone?
Once in a while, I blend/ mix a colour with a metallic then thin out- is this less effective over time? Not for the whole army, but for Command.
Would the drybrushing highlighting technique work for Tau Firewarriors?
Excelente como siempre :), traenos alguna mini de El señor de los anillos pleaseeeee :))

Does the mini have to be put together before you paint it, or can you have each individual piece laid out and paint it piece by piece. Or would doing that effect the connector pins of the mini?
@DuncanRhodesDRPA
Жыл бұрын
It's probably best to assemble the miniature entirely, especially for troop choices. Larger models might require some thought into sub-assemblies. Normally, we don't advise painting on the frame. Some people do, but in our experience, it's not necessary 😊
Duncan, do you use black primer before spraying leadbelcher?
@DuncanRhodesDRPA

Hi Frank. We used Leadbelcher spray straight onto the plastic. The spray is designed to be a primer. If you don't have Leadbelcher spray then you can use Chaos Black or Mechanicus Standard Grey spray and paint the Leadbelcher over that 😊
Hey can you do a tutorial on the Baratheon Wardens or Sentinels from the song of ice and fire game please
Nihilakh, were those the ones that ignore terrain? Because I need a new dynasty now that GW has gotten rid of Maynarkh and walking through terrain sounds helpful for a melee based necrons force. Looks good by the way, I really like your stile Duncan.
