6 Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them.

Ойындар

We all make them when painting miniatures....mistakes or 'oopsies' as we sometimes call them...or something worse ($%*!!!!) depending on the mistake. Whether it's too much Wash or Primer, a stray highlight or even a dodgy drybrush there are ways to fix them. In this video, we show you the six most common mistakes we have come across and often make ourselves and we show you how to both fix them and prevent them.
Enjoy😊

I asked my dad for painting advice and he said if you want a nice patterned finish use wallpaper. I'd go so far as to say his style and presentation is the best on this site for making painting easy to understand and follow, and Duncan seems so natural at it. You could probably make some really cool stain effects by doing something similar to how you got that wash ring on the cape. Leave a big spot of redish brown wash/watery paint, wait for the edges to dry, then dab it off and you'd probably get a pretty realistic old blood stain

I appreciate how your primary approach is "Take your time and avoid mistakes if possible". I see too many painters who say "Don't worry if you make mistakes, we can go over them later". That's inevitable to some extent, but the indisputable fact is "The fewer mistakes you make, the less time you will have to spend fixing them." Also, that helps to reinforce the habit of brush control, which is fundamental to more advanced techniques.

Fixing mistakes or damage can be very satisfying! I'm working on refurbishing a used Forgeworld Mortarion (I am guessing at least third-hand based on how many layers of paint there were when I cleaned him) and he's coming along nicely. Used Simple Green and the built up paint came right off with some gentle scrubbing after a soak. Right now I'm replacing some missing or broken parts by rummaging through the big bag of accumulated bits of things

The weathered look patchy drybrushing gives to minis is sometimes cool. Only sometimes though. Thanks for the help!

Appreciate the video. I've got no depth perception so I've had to figure out ways not to make mistakes and sometimes I still....miss with my brush and dab some paint on something I've spent an hour slowly highlighting and shading.

Gotta say that eye splotch was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve probably ever seen, but you somehow make fixing mistakes look so simple and easy.

yep - been there, done that :) Glad to see all these mistakes are common . Also it's fine to make a mistake, you learn that way, what works and what doesn't.

When it comes to highlighting marines I find that sometimes having a rough finish to them actually works, it kind of gives a scuffed highlight that looks just as good. Also my eyes are feeling their age...
