What sending grit did you use for this project? So sorry if I missed you mentioning it on the video!
I got sent here by @diydanie . I've never tried to paint laminate before I usually use the shellac bin because I'm painting wood and I have tannin bleed through. Usually sanding between coats has to do more with getting a smooth even finish then with bonding itself. Sanding between primer and paint would only make a difference if the primer went on kind of lumpy or rough. I would love to know by what you meant by like latex paint and cabinet paint? any of these chalk paints or mineral paints? What brand? What sprayer did you wreck? I'm going to have to check out that extreme Bond stuff cuz I've been doing a fair amount of furniture work. I don't foresee myself doing a lot of laminate but I do currently have an Ikea desk but I kind of beat up and I'm switching up my desk and give it to my kids so it's going to be in the living room and I either need to paint the top or contact paper it. Do you know if that primer happens to block tannins? Thanks for the video
Wow! Thanks for doing this for us❤ but hypotenuse has me cracking up. We all occasionally do that because how often do we get to need to arrive to a hypothesis or otherwise 🤷🏽♀️🥸😬 love it.

What about a spray paint for "indoors and outdoors" for small IKEA 2 door little cupboard?
@LindiandRuss
2 жыл бұрын
You definitely can use any paint method, this is just showing the method that I think will last the longest and give the best finish! If I was using a lower quality spray paint, I would probably sand in between each layer and still definitely use primer!
Very helpful video. Can I ask when you refer to sanding between 1st and second coat.. is that sanding between primer and first coat of paint or between 1st and 2nd coats of paint? Do you need to sand between primer and 1st coat of paint? Thank you.
@LindiandRuss
Жыл бұрын
a light sand (like 200 grit plus) between any coat will help for a great finish. But if you wanted to minimize the sanding I would just do a light sand between the primer and first coat of paint.

Hello Thank you for making this video, you inspired me. I wanted to use latex instead of cabinet paint, you said that has been tested but you didn’t talk about it Isn’t good?
@LindiandRuss

The latex just didn't hold up as good. The cabinet paint had better scuff and scratch resistance. The cabinet paint is better for high traffic/touch point areas.

So, did you remove the Ikea top and make a custom extended top to cover the little side piece that you added? You replaced the top after the painting was done? What did you use for the top? I wish you had shown the entire process of how you added the top and exactly how you built the beautiful drawer fronts. (I'm not smart enough to figure all that out without specific instructions.) Great job though. I love it!

I have heard about the Bin Shellac primer but you are the first with the extreme bond primer. Which would you recommend for apartment settings?
@LindiandRuss

Extreme bond is alot easier to use and clean up. Shellac really shines for preventing bleed through on bare wood. As long as your apartment is ok with painting - I would go with extreme bond. If you are just painting walls, a primer like bulleye 1-2-3 is fine too.
