I started watching your channel when you where building stuff out of construction grade lumber in your garage and didn't know very much about it. I never commented telling your that you didn't know what you were doing. I knew you would get better and your skills would evolve because you had the natural ability and determination. Your channel has evolved tremendously since those days and I enjoy it very much.

You are one of the greatest DIY makers I’ve found on KZread. I’m only 14 years old but in the last year I really got into woodworking. I replicated quite a few of your tool holders and continue to amaze myself with my skills. I completed a coffee table build not too long ago that I got plans for from another KZread, Ana White. Keep up the great work!😁

I’m curious- in a world where handskill arts and woodworking is simultaneously shrinking as a vocational or hobby pursuit and yet broadening and growing at the very same time- I’m curious if you (now 16yo?) are still growing in this field. I’m 57 now and didn’t start woodworking until my 20’s, and I’m intrigued by what draws young people into the discipline these days. What attracted you to woodworking to begin with? Thanks- M in Vermont.

This was very helpful. I took a class with Greg on making Windsor Chairs. Best class I ever took. I have not been able to make more yet, but I took what he taught me and have used in many other projects. Now I think I can milk paint my chair.

This is probably the best video on milk paint. I've done a couple projects with it and have struggled. This video will definitely help the next project. I really love the traditional look. Anyone who turns up their nose at painting fine furniture doesn't have to buy it or have it in their house. I think mixing paint and natural or stained wood is beautiful. Great work on the chair and thank you for the paint tutorial.

I am studying Wood Working and furniture design in college and we just completed our last semester on chair building. Prior to the beginning of the semester I never really considered how many different designs and styles of chairs there were, and up to that point most chairs to me, equally had a simple functionality purpose. I can tell you that, there are as many design styles and ideas as there are master builders and artist making them. When the same old style and designs are pumped out, its called a factory, keep doing what you like best, who cares what traditionalist say. Do your own thing and run with it. I liked the way it turned out.

Wanted to add, that every traditional design or style was an original idea from a craftsman or artist, then they became standards in the industry. Also, we use a lot of Milk Paint, cool stuff. You can change the final finish look by adjusting the consistancy with more or less water ratio's.

I spent some years working in an antique shop in RI and I fixed up a ton of chairs and built some too. Milk paint is awesome stuff except it's very hard to strip off. So just glue the chair and slop on some more milk paint! Nowadays I don't do much furniture building but thanks so much for inspiring me to try to get back to what I love, Excellent work!

I love that you are so hands on and involved in individual projects. The info about the traditional practice of milk paint, the marble, etc is what makes your content great. I hope you never get caught up in the “business” of wood working that you aren’t in the shop and hands on! It’s smart to diversify- both in case something happens but also so it can free you up to pursue things you love! Beautiful chair! Keep up the awesome content! I love the idea of the deck under the oak trees in another video. Are you considering classes for those of us wanting a hands on experience?

Interesting video April. I have been following you for a couple of years now and enjoy watching how you have evolved in your skills. I am a professional cabinet maker& master Joiner with 45 years experience and even I have learnt a few things. You mentioned that all Windsor chairs were traditionally painted. Actually that's not totally true, the old bodgers used to sometimes scorch their chairs to make it look like paint, as paint was very expensive in those days. But most chairs were just oiled with linseed oil & beeswax as this was readily available. I used to study the history of furniture making years ago. Although you are not wrong about the painting thing as many chairs were and still are painted. Chippendale for instance developed french polishing techniques in his furniture and most chippendale chairs were originally french polished. Still an interesting video. Well done.
