    Thank you for sharing this tutorial. Love this piece and the finish you've chosen. Can't wait to find a special piece to use the Rustic Rose finish on. Your tutorials are very informative. The step by step tutorials have given me the confidence to try these finishes myself. I prefer to refinish, upcycle and recycle older items as the wood and craftsmanship is usually superior to materials used in new furniture today. Added bonus is the pieces don't end up in landfills. Thank You!

    Love the tutorial I will be trying it with my kitche bar stools! Is there a top coat or sealer (I’m not sure what it’d be called, newbie here) to go over the the final finish? In order for it to last longer.

    Im in love with what you did to this dresser. I have a complete bedroom set that is very ornate that I would love to do this same look to. Now I know that the annie sloan emperor silk color has changed and that the wise owl red color you used is retired. So now what can I use that will be as close as I can get to the original emperor silk color. Please any advice guidance or help you can provide would be so appreciated. I cant get over how gorgeous this dresser looks.

    Beautiful... I have a question though. Why do you use the clear wax first? Does it do something important to the finish? I have a very old dresser, it was painted but the paint is pretty much all worn off. I was thinking of using this technique with a bright red, but pulling it down VERY dark with the wax. So the red is really just a breath of color behind the black. I was thinking that just using black wax, without the clear wax first, would make the end color darker?

    Susan Vasquez the clear wax is a barrier between the paint and the accenting wax (black). This will allow you to move the accenting wax around easier to ensure it goes on where you want and not all over. Going straight black wax over a chalk style paint will absolutely darken the paint and quickly and without allow you to move it around. Chalk style paint is porous so it’ll want to absorb and adhere. That clear wax with give you the barrier and more time to get it on how you want. Hope that makes sense ☺️

    Thank you for informative video. I do have couple questions. Do you buff clear wax prior to adding the black wax accent? Do you wait until clear is completely dry before adding black wax? First time using chalk paint and I’m trying it out on bookcase… want to make sure I’m getting it right. Thank you, Mary

    You can buff before or not, either way works. And no, you don’t have to wait for the clear wax to dry

    Yes 👍 can’t Poly over wax so… if you for some reason feel you want to Poly, be sure to Poly then wax. But there’s no need for that in my opinion

    Dark wax will give you a similar look, as it is a dark brown color, but won’t look exactly like this. For waxing in those detailed areas, just push the wax down in and wipe away the raised areas, leaving the wax down in the recessed spots. And if you need to remove some from those raised areas, use the Clear Wax with a shop towel and wipe, it’ll work as an eraser of sorts. Just in case the raised areas hold too much of the dark wax 👍

    So glad to have found this. We just painted our old oak hutch with red chalk paint, and we're deciding what to do next. I want to try the black wax, my hubby wants to keep it clear. If we choose to add black wax, how long do you have to let the clear wax dry? Can it dry too long or too little? Thank you!

  • @RefurbishedGentlemanTelevision

    @RefurbishedGentlemanTelevision

    Depending on the clear wax you can do it right away. And no there’s no time limit, anytime after. So if you wanted to leave it for a while and see, you can do that and add black wax later 👍
