How to Paint FLESH for nurgle, ogres, ghouls, zombies and more!

In this video, we take a look at how to paint a model that is predominantly skin. Whilst we've gone for a sort of pink scheme here, the technique applies to anything you fancy, so try it out with all sorts of colours. Equally whilst I've used a nurgle Plaguebearer model from Games Workshop this would work great on anything similar, zombies, ghouls, giants whatever!
* I apologise for a couple of popping sounds midway through the video. No idea what's caused them but I'll do some research!

When doing boils in the usual yellowish tone, glaze a little white over it as it gives the effect of a thin membrane stretched over the surface. Also a white dot to create the core of the boil gives a little extra. The joys of having worked in inhospitable parts of the world means I have seen too many of the damn things.

@@cultofpaint "HOBBY--IS--LIFE--!!" echoes from under the paint-stained cowls of 30 to 40 dark huddled figures - (one of whom, with a mis-timed dropping of what sounds like his Redgrass XL Wet Palette, somewhat spoils the spooky 'CULT-ish' effect with the plastic crash and the inevitable cries of "oh" "oh shit" "sorry, sorry" & "I'll pick that up"). 😕

I'm a big fan of this series and Henry has really improved my range of effects and techniques. This vid, honestly not so much. The boils look good though I'd prefer a bit more variety in look to give a sense of ripening process. The skin is the issue though, it's smooth and uniform and achieves a good result for very little work but this isn't a half dressed barbarian and it really feels like an opportunity missed to mottle, disease, infect and inflame. He's so rotten with disease his belly's split and his guts are falling out but most of his skin is smooth and has a healthy ruddy glow. Might represent something about the corruption process? I don't play the games, so never read any of the lore Henry, whatever I think of this one vid, you're absolutely a skilled talent, with a lot of innovation and fresh technique, combined with a great style of presentation and a clear, practical approach to showing and describing how to get the effects.

Not a fan of contrast paints, so the first part of the video wasn't for me that much, BUT painting the sword brown and using metal color afterwards for the edges instead of painting everything metal and then adding rust afterwards is a genius idea which I will surely use soon.

Assessor: Henry, we're going to do a word association exercise. I'm going to say a word and you tell me the first thing that comes into your mind. Henry: Okay. Assessor: "Flesh". Henry: Ghuls. Assessor: What the fu... I mean... erm, Ghuls? Henry: Yes, Ghuls Assessor: Okay. If you say so. Next word. "Micro Bikini". Henry: Ogres. Assessor: Ogres? Henry: Fat Ogres. Assessor: When I say "Micro Bikini" you think of Fat Ogres? Henry: Yes. Assessor: I see. Urm... next word. "The Beach". Henry: Zombies. Assessor: Zombies? Henry: Yes. Assessor: Zombies at the beach? Henry: Urm... they don't necessarily have to be at the beach, just Zombies in general. Assessor: "Breast Feeding". Henry: Plague Bearer. Assessor: Plague Bearer? Henry: Yes. Assessor: If I was to ask you to think of a woman breastfeeding a newborn... Henry: Oh! That's definitely a plague bearer. 100%. Assessor: Uhm... Henry, don't you think that there is some sort of association between all of these things? Uhh... Micro Bikini, The Beach, Breast, Flesh... don't you think that there is a common link in this. Henry: Are you suggesting that I missed something? Assessor: Well, I don't know if there truly is a right or wrong answer... but... "flesh on show, anything where there is flesh on show". Those are your words, aren't they? Henry: Yes, I did say that. Assessory: And we have Ghuls, Ogres, Zombies and Plague Bearers. Henry: So? What exactly is your point? Assessor: Henry, what would you say if I said the word "Stripper"? Henry: Plastic or metal? No, actually, nevermind. I'd just buy a new mini. Assessor: Isn't that kind of an obscure and cryptic answer? Henry: It makes sense to me. Assessor: Yes. Yes, I thought that it might. For most people... Micro Bikinis on Ogres... Henry, what do you think of, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the names "Voight-Kampff"?
