Yes, she is so appealing. I like real people! I think her kitchen looks great. I have expensive taste and love Louis XV Marble Fireplaces! I wanted a very pale pink Carrara marble fireplace, but they cost thousands - some like 30,000. So I may have found a wooden one that is free and if I can get it I can paint it and hope it passes! I did take scene painting in college (to offset all the hard psych courses I was taking for grad school at the time, like stat, experimental psych etc). It was really a great class and the teacher used to do the back drops for all the NYC Broadway shows etc. He taught us tricks on how to make things look 3D, shadows, marble, rock walls, etc. Hope this works!

“I ain’t scared.” I love it! This is the attitude I had when I was experimenting with painting my countertops. I posted it on a FB page and so many people were negative because it didn’t “look natural.” 🙄

I am very good at 3D, but not at painting. Your video explained things so nicely, and your commentary was awesome and gave me confidence. I have just done my bathroom countertop and I am incredibly proud of it. Thank you!

Unlike you I was terrified to try this... I'm not very confident in my abilities yet but oh my goodness I am so glad I did! Your instructions and encouragement were so helpful. I pained my backsplash tile white and it ended up too plain for my taste so I followed the video to add some marbling.... my husband came home from work and his jaw hit the floor. @@MsDreamcakes Do you feel your technique will work on a "wooden" Louis XV looking fireplace with scroll work? I posted above stating how much I love them, but real Carrara marble Louis XV fireplaces can be 30,000, so I thought I would try to paint it myself to look like marble. Haha! You sure can! I use whatever I have on hand. I've used everything from the little bottles of craft paint that are 50 cents, to whatever paint I used to paint the room with. As long as you seal it good the kind of paint you use doesn't matter! =}

do yourself a favor and add glaze to whatever paint you have, that gives it open time. or makes it dry slower giving you time to whatever you want to it.

I'm using cellulose floor varnish for wood mixed with cellulose white and cream on concrete to make s durable marble floor. It takes a bit of practice. Can't wait to clear coat it. There's lots of chips and pin holes in the concrete. My plan is to grout them whit white tile grout before sealing. Hopefully they will look like white partial veins. What do you think?

I make stiff rags alł the time cleaning up edges on wet poly coated projects! I keep all my rags till they are no longer recognizable. This is a great video. I’ve been paint pouring, and have come really close to the effect I want, but still wasn’t completely happy, so this helps me tremendously on how to save my most recent pour. You just gained a new subscriber 😎

Cool technique. I do nail art and have done marble nails and I've added thin lines of c metallic gold. Adding a little bit of gold might give it a rich look as well.

I'm so glad I came across you and your beautiful accent. You are by far the most creative and knowledgeable on how to create veins and a natural look of stone. I plan on doing mine tomorrow and I'm so glad I found you. Jesus Christ bless you richly during this holiday Christmas season!

I think you’ll enjoy it better than the contact paper because it’s a lot more durable! I painted my kitchen countertops about 5 years ago and they are still going strong with no touch ups!

If you’re painting over laminate countertop you will need to prime it first. I used a boat primer to go over laminate but I think I’ve seen other people do it with Kilz! And since the primer is white I just used it as my basecoat!

I was just wondering how you clean them? Is there a cleaner you can use on them that won't damage the top coat? Or do you just use water?

+laura przgoda I just clean them with whatever I'm cleaning the rest of the kitchen with. They will get stains like mustard but I just spray a mixture of bleach and water and they come right up!

How durable/waterproof is that finish? Is it durable enough for normal use around sinks and stove tops?

Marble contact paper is so much neater and easier. And looks the same. It looks great..did my tv stands first then my dining table. Next will be my kitchen counters and back splash. Just wipe clean no stain. Looks so pretty wont come off until you take it off. Amazon heavy duty vinyl contact paper. Pull off the paper and smooth as you go slow. Easy to cut.

Great effect! I can't find the time atm, but will add to fave vids, I have a craft room that I have left untouched...life gets so busy!

Awesome tutorial!! I'm stoked to try this! I've watched a few other videos on how to achieve this look and yours is, by far, the most informative, the easiest, and the most fun to watch 😁I have a quick question: In the other videos I watched they used a black primer, is this something you'd suggest? If I'm painting over dark green (ugh) laminate, do I need a primer or just a good cleaning with a product like TSP?

Wow! I am totally amazed at what you just did! I LOVE Carera but of course could never afford to replace my countertops with it. This looks just like the real thing. A question for you...how did you prime the counter tops before painting them with the grey..or did you? Thank you for an excellent video and the courage to just DO IT! I'm always so afraid of making a mistake, but you showed us that it's so easy and basically foolproof! Thank You!

Hi, I just did my own counter tops, and I personally used kilz water based white primer from Wal-Mart, then let it dry for about 6 hours or so then I used the 50cents to 99cents acrylic paint from Wal-Mart and it came out beautiful... o recommend getting the dolphin grey for the light grey based, a dark grey for some depth and texture tones, black for the Beijing's, and white, so you would need about 4 colors, and I used a sea foam sponge from the dollar tree....

Is Polyacrylic strong enough to be durable on a countertop? Cleaning it routinely?

It has been for me….I’m at around 5 years in and it’s starting to break down and needs to be redone!

Great tutorial and your counters look amazing! You inspired me to try this on my bathroom counter and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Now I want to tackle my kitchen counters BUT... I used the same polycyclic you did with about 5-7 coats (lost track lol) but the other day I left a wet bottle on the counter and when I removed it, there was a huge white-milky kind of water spot I guess. I got worried thinking I ruined the counter but the next day it was gone! I worry now about the kitchen counter especially the part behind the sink which is always getting wet. Has this happened to you? Would more coats combat this do you think? Thanks again for your great tutorial?

I wonder if it was because yours were done so recently and the polyurethane will cure better/harder over time and it won't do that any more? I babied mine in the beginning and dared my family to sit anything on them for probably the first month?!? I would love to know if this continues to happen to yours!

I've seen in the comments you recommend a shiny primer for actual countertops? what do you mean by that? Sorry I've never done anything like this and the house I'm moving into has hideous dingy yellow countertops and love the way this look so I really want to try it

I mean you should use a shiny surface primer so that the paint will stick to the formica really good. I just painted the countertops in my RV and I'm working on the video to go up later today. I used a primer meant for boats. I bought it online on Amazon and it's called "Total Boat" by Jamestown Distributors. I've painted almost every kind of surface I you can imagine! lol =}

How long does it take to dry between the poly coats? Thank you in advance. It turned out beautifully

Hi JD, if your surface is real marble I’m not sure I would recommend this for that surface. If your surface is man made marble you can paint it but I would use an oil based primer. I have found that a primer used to prime boats works really well on very smooth surfaces like man made marble! =}

Looks very nice and I just love how you are not afraid to do trial and error until you get the look you want. You are creative and so inspiring, just what I need. Also, can one put a layer of polyurethane over this to protect more?

Thank you so much! I sealed mine with a water based polyurethane because it won’t yellow it. The oil based ones will turn it yellow immediately and get worse over time. Mine have held up great though so I would totally recommend it! 👍🏻

How long did you let the polyurethane dry between each coat totally ten>? And then how long did it have to cure? Does it scratch> ??? I am using an oil based poly - seems like it would repel the water better. Also an oil based kilz would be smart. Then the acrylic.

I used a water based poly so it dries very quickly. I let mine cure for a week before I sat stuff on them just to be sure and I haven't had any trouble with them. I wouldn't use an oil based poly because it yellows....even the ones that say they won't. If you are painting yours a dark color it won't matter but if you're doing them a light color, an oil based poly WILL yellow them.

Thank you TheSweetpea73! I have no complaints what so ever! My husband caused a nick in it but he was using the hammer on the counter to hammer something so you can't expect it to hold up under that! lol I don't ever cut anything on them directly I always use a cutting board and I don't sit hot stuff on them without using a pad under it but other than that I don't treat them special in any way! I've gotten stains on them and I just spray it with bleach water and they bleach right out! I hope your mom's turn out great, I love mine! =}

How long after painting should I wait to apply the polycrlic.

That's exactly why I've learned to do so much myself....I would rather just do it than listen to him complain about doing it the whole time! lol I've personally never painted on the cultured marble (one of the few things I haven't put paint on lol) but I would certainly give it a try. When I first started painting my countertops...sometime in the 90's.....I used a shiny surface primer that was sold for boats and it was AMAZING. I didn't have any trouble with my paint peeling or scratching off of the tiles I painted. I bought it at Lowe's but I've been told they no longer carry it but if I were you, I would try to get my hands on some of that to prime it with first then paint your heart out!!! lol =}

We've lived in this house for almost 20 years and I have redone the kitchen 8 times (I think, it might be more) lol Maybe one of these days I'll see if I can dig out pics of what it looked like some of the other times! My dad used to joke and say that my house didn't need insulation I had enough paint on the walls to cover that! lol =}

Haha you sound like my kind of guy, maybe you can get the wrap material in marble and wrap your truck! lol They have held up really well for me. I put about 5 coats of sealer on it and that's it, I don't do anything else special for them. I'm not careful of them ...but I'm also not a caveman with them either! Good luck with your truck! =}

Thank you Ted, I used a water based sealer because I don't want it to yellow. The oil based ones ALWAYS yellow and since these are white I wanted them to stay white. I haven't had any trouble with it being done with a water based sealer either so I'm very happy about that! =}

Thank you for the video! I have a rental home that had countertop painted texture so i start scrap if off the paint. The person who painted did an awful job, i might not be able to get the original laminate back since the paint is thick. Can I put the primer over it or sand them down and primer then paint it over? another question Does polyurethane work to use after paint laminate countertop? I ask the lowes employee, they say don't put polyurethane on countertop.

+yenlan patton If it's hard to get the paint off I would just sand it down a little and paint over it. If you get it back down to the laminate you will need to prime it first with a shiny surface primer before you paint it. I haven't had any trouble with the polyurethane on my painted countertops but I wouldn't put it directly on the laminate without paint under it. I hope you are able to fix them without too much trouble! =}

I primed them with an acrylic Kilz!

I just use semigloss interior paint (the white) and acrylic craft paint (the grays).

What type of material is that you're painting on? Did you do a top coat first? Clearly I missed something. Really really nice, and I LOVE your countertops, they look natural to me!

Thank you Moogie! I was just painting on a scrap piece of wood to show how I did my counters. Mine are actually plywood and my basecoat was KILZ! =}

What kind of paint do you use? Water based? Acrylic? I know you mentioned clear polyurethane topcoat. I love this technique I am going to use this technique on my coffee table, 2 end tables and a sofa table. I can't wait!!

Yes, everything is water based (acrylic), the paint and the sealer! I'm excited for you to give it a try!!! I love mine and have painted my countertops and tabletop in my RV using this method! Let me know how yours goes!! =}

I painted my kitchen countertops like this over 5 years ago and we’re still going strong (not a single touch up)!

so what kind of paint did you use? My son wants to paint his kitchen countertops just like this. Did you also prime them first?

+Suzanna Escalante I just used some latex paint that I used to paint my walls with. I've also used the craft paints from Walmart to do it too. I did prime them first but my countertops are just plywood they aren't formica and they had already been painted once. If you are painting over formica I would suggest you use a primer for shiny surfaces. Years ago when I painted over formica I bought a primer that was used for boats and I didn't have any trouble at all with it scratching off. I bought it at Lowe's but I went back recently to buy more and they said they no longer carry it so you might have to try a boat supply store. I hope that helps! =}

I am not liking the "bumpy" finish over the counter...any way around that so the finish looks very smooth?

Yes, you can sand sand sand!!!! lol I’m not a fan of sanding so I don’t mind the bumps! 🙈
