    This is great Adam, i've been stuggling with the toners, and figuring out what they are for/when to use them, the last section was very helpful, Thankyou.

    A humble request: could you please raise the audio volume on future recordings? When I add a TAP video to my playlist every video before and after a TAP video is *way* louder. And I'm using headsets. Via speakers the video is barely audible.

    What would you use to establish an olive skin tone? How about a drow, where the goal is less "very dark brown" and more "just black/grey with a light flesh tone"?

    I know this is a rather old video, but are you planning to release this colours separately? I like the colours for dark skin, but they can't be found on your website. And I don't want to buy a set if I only need 4 paints from these.

    I was wondering about the use of those pigment toners. But they make sense now. Can you mix those toners in with warpaints, like for makeup? I like using Elemental Bolt or Orc's Blood for eyeshadow, but sometimes the effect can be too strong.

    Really useful video; not quite sure I'm across what I can do with the pigment toners, or what the mixing medium is for. Probably as I've not gotten into glazing yet (Which looks like washing, but guessing they are quite different!)

  • @TheArmyPainter

    @TheArmyPainter

    The toners are there to glaze, yes, but also as mixing colours to help tone your skin tones to get the perfect colouration. And glazing is not quite like washing. When you wsh a model, you are doing so to add depth and shadow to a model. Glazing is the method of tinting with layers.

    @@TheArmyPainter ah thanks! But you say they are there to mix with other paints... how does that differ from mixing PAINTS with other paints?

  • @TheArmyPainter

    @TheArmyPainter

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@phantomwhale It doesn't. What's different about the Pigment Toners is that the pigmentation and formulation were made specifically for the purposes used in this set. You could always use a colour like Mummy Robes, or Dragon Red, or Dark Sky...but we went the extra mile to ensure that Opal, Obsidian, and Garnet were the perfect colours for the Skin Tones in the set.

  • @phantomwhale

    @phantomwhale

    @@TheArmyPainter Ok... so how is mixing a bit of the Obsidian paint into another paint different from mixing a bit of the Obsidian pigment toner into another paint? E.g. why is a "pigment toner" different to a "paint"? Sorry, possibly a "newb" question, but I've bought the skin tone set now, so figured I get 2-3 newb questions as part of the purchase price 😀

  • @TheArmyPainter

    @@phantomwhale You certainly can mix Obsidian Toner with any paint you want, the Pigment Toners for this range were just specifically chosen to work with natural skin tones. The feature a slightly higher pigmentation, for that purpose - mixing and also to retaun colour when thinned down for glazing. They were developed to be additives for this set, but can be used however you'd want with other colours. In practice, there's nothing different than mixing paints, with paints. In development, the paints are actually quite unique for us.

    I've got a lot of models I'm planning on painting, that are showing a lot of skin (mostly human skin), instead of painting two layers of gray undercoat and two layers of color with zero shading and depth. Is there any methods of making some visually pleasing skin with shading, and outfits/uniforms with also good shading? I'm still trying to get highlighting down, and how to correctly tie it to light sources and stuff. I heard one of the best beginner methods is to get a spray undercoat and just spray the model from above, using a white spray primer to simulate a light source. Do people use washes for skin, for larger models that are also heavy on skin? One last note, sort of new to mini painting any recommendations on any products to achieve these results? Right now I've got the Game Master RP Paint set, but I've got the Vallejo Basic Paint Set & Vallejo Grey Primer coming in soon. Down the line I'm thinking about the Vallejo Face/Skin Set, Citadel Reikland Fleshshade, Citadel Base Bugman's Glow, Citadel Layer Cadian Fleshtone, Citadel Layer Kislev Flesh.

    Zenithal priming, spraying the white from above on an already primed model, is a great way to get started on the model by blocking in some of the highlights and shadows early. We offer several painting solutions for skin tones, including a variety of skin tone paints from our Speedpaint range for a fast, 1 step process (particularly great over a zenithal spray), as well as in our Warpaints range, such as with the Skin Tones Paint Set. Washes work great for skin, even on larger models, though if the surface is particularly large or flat, you may want to go back in with a Warpaint to even out the coverage afterward.

    Was the skin tone set inspired by Rihanna as well? This is like her Fenty Beauty line that includes a bunch of skin tones. This skin tone set is doing a huge leap to show that it's ok to show your diversity. 😎
