How to paint an Ork Beast Snagga - The 'Eavy Metal Way

As a follow on from the previous Ork skin video I decided to paint the rest of the miniature - somehow fitting everything into one video! This one felt like a mammoth task to edit, but hopefully it is useful!

    Great stuff. Out of curiosity; could you make a video about the procedure you follow when painting? Like concepts that go into how you are taught to paint when you learn the 'Eavy Metal style - how to thin paints, how much paint to load on the brush, how to do these crazy thin lines you do, bracing for control etc. It may seem arbitrary to you because by now it would be second nature, but for many of us, getting these core concepts wrong will only mean that the errors compound and make it very difficult to follow along with you. Perhaps you could go in-depth about the concepts of the 'Eavy Metal style you constantly use: Chunky highlights, soft shades etc. The abstract idea behind them, how to execute the techniques from start to finish. Thanks!

    I got back into painting 5 or 6 months ago because of my love of all things ork. I've since painted maybe 40 or 50 of the little green buggers, but have kept searching for what I thought was the best approach/paint scheme to follow. First off wanna say this is amazing! Love watching these while I paint. Not to follow along but sometimes you give good advice, and then you are just calming to listen to. So off to my question. Out of curiosity, how long do you get as a eavy metal painter to finish a unit for the box art? Are the deadlines hard to keep or are you gives very good time for each project? Thanks for the amazing content mate~

  • @InfernalBrush

    @InfernalBrush

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for the kind message. It really depends on the unit however a standard space marine is around 2.5 days, the same for an ork really. So an entire unit of 5 would be around 12.5 days (thats 7.5 hours a day). The deadlines are much better nowadays than 10 years ago however there's always projects that are more difficult to hit the deadline. It could really be anything from a particular paint or colour scheme being more difficult or the assembly/ resin having problems. So yes deadlines are generous however it can still be a stressful job like any other and ofcourse it still has to meet the quality standards. I hope this answers your question!

    are you using air version of citadel paints in some case like you use in some cases for vallejo ? I feel like no matter how much i dilute standard citadel they stick to and eventually are sort of absorbed by the wet pallet's paper as im painting for long sessions, while your (and other pros) paint never really stick to its surface and always stay very liquid and flowing. Im trying to figure out why...

  • @InfernalBrush

    @InfernalBrush

    2 жыл бұрын

    I do own some air versions yeah, I only ever really use the averland sunset air though as it is superior to the normal version. I would recommend if you haven't already, switching your palette paper for baking paper Reynolds baking parchment (US) and sainsbury's baking paper (UK) both work well and don't absorb the paint.

    The best way to learn about colour recipes and combinations is through trial and error. Stick some test miniatures together and play about with a few colours, maybe check around online for recipes to get an idea for what works and how to highlight or shade different colours. Even 'eavy metal will paint test miniatures and also use photoshop to test out colour combinations before deciding which will become the main scheme for the box art.
