How To Paint a Flower Still Life | Intro to Floral Art
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today's chill painting session is an exploration of gouache and still life and doing less. We are painting flowers in gouache, we're going to do a painting in an hour focusing on shadows, light, shapes and color and not getting hung up on little details.

Shayda, I loved this. It’s a different style, and I appreciate you walking us through your thought process and plan. The split screen lets us see your facial expressions and that’s such an honest presentation. I’ve been following you for years, and I always always love what you create.

Hello 🤗 Shayda 🌹 Thank you for sharing this video That is so Great that you are painting from a real flower plant Hope you have a Wonderful weekend ☺️🌹💌🖌️🎨📚🦄🤗❣️❣️
Yes! Less is more. I enjoyed watching and hearing you as the painting came to life. Thank you for sharing.
That's a great idea to do a sketch using the gouache! I really, really dislike drawing sketches (one reason is because I don't enjoy drawing, second because I tend to do too detailed/realistic of a sketch and then my painting is detailed too, even though I really want it to be loose), so if I ever paint with acrylics, I'll try doing the sketch with watercolours (I don't have gouache), that way the end result could actually be loose! If only I could do the same with watercolours... Maybe if the grey was very light I could. Anyway, thanks for the idea!

Thank you for this full length video. It’s hard to find gouache tutorials that are not “cartoonish”. I would like it if you would inset the reference photo somewhere on your screen as this is very helpful when we want to “paint along”.
Shayda, enjoy your videos and the flowers are always a great subject, so pretty 😍

Hey Shayda! I’ve heard you say a few times now that you really want to “do less” in your paintings and I’m curious whether you mean this for your “finished” paintings let’s say, because you like a less is more approach in finished paintings, or if you are talking about your quicker, practice studies only? Or maybe you mean it for both! Do you feel like overworking is something you struggle with in general? Thanks for sharing your artistic journey with us! 😊
@ShaydaCampbell
3 ай бұрын
Definitely both! I’m trying to do more quick sketch paintings and I’m also trying to produce more ‘finished’ pieces that are more primitive, slightly more abstracted ❤

I am at the art store right now. Can you please give me the names of the colors you used? Thanks!
When you store the plate will the paint, do you cover the plate...store room temp?
@ShaydaCampbell

I just leave it out as is at room temp. Covering it is a good idea if your next painting won’t be for awhile!

I was going to paint along but you removed the reference photo!
It's hard to do something that isn't 'you.' Maybe, if you want to do less, limit your palet to 3 shades of each color. Three shades of purple. Three shades of green. Three shades of brown. The rule is, don't mix these colors. You are just color blocking. It will NOT look like a finished painting. If it does, you bent the rules. If it still doesn't work, also limit your time. 15 minutes start to finish, say. I have some 'sketches' that are just awful if you take them as 'finished.' But I could see if the colors worked, if the composition worked, if there was enough contrast, if, ultimately, I wanted to pursue the painting. Hope that helps. I love your channel, btw! Been following all of these videos!
I wish you have mentioned the name of the colors
