The paint job looked good considering it was rolled on. This concept is great for making a vehicle look presentable again on a very low budget. Your video would have been much better if you cut the garbage music and just spoke to us about the process, and tips on the best techniques.

  • @BlatentlyFakeName

Yep, this is what they did before spray painting booths and you can get a really good finish. But it will take ages. You need to apply quite a few coats, sanding each one then finally polish it, lacquer then sand and polish again. That will give an amazing paint job with no orange peel or anything. It will also be much tougher than a normal spray job especially if you use an oil based paint.

I did this on a 03 Crown Vic with peeling paint, I used a foam brush, did 3 coats (make sure you have a 4 day weekend, takes about 18 hours to dry properly) after that I wet sanded it with 800 grit then 1000 grit sand paper to cut down on the orange peel, then a spray on gloss coat followed by a buff and wax. Turned out very well

You get a much more solid paint job than the modern way, but it's many hours of labour. Once finished properly it will be very smooth with no orange peel etc.

I suspect there will be nicks and peels and white reveals all over by the weekend. Monochromatic effect and white wheels was cool, but not road worthy. I'd have been okay with a completely paint wasted beater, that didn't look too bad, initially.

  • @akoznasovajusername

This is an oil-based paint that doesn't require a primer, also known as top coat. What they did wrong was not putting another thin layer of coat, and before that, they had to wet sand the first thick coat. An oil-based paint doesn't require clear coat. The paint job could be to heavy for three coats of paint, and could start too crack within a few months. Even if they did all that right, this type of job doesn't last more than a year on the car as it starts to crack, and on the sun especially.

Did a pretty good job honestly. I would have liked to see a better colour chosen. Y'all should have also tried harder in not painting over the trims and logo. Overall great video! How has the paint held up?

To be fair, I've seen more expensive paint jobs come out worse. This might be how i do my new beater build.. i wonder if adding a filler primer, plus clear would help. 🤔 but I'll probably just do as you did lol.

I guess the lousy music was more important for us to hear than what was being said. You get what you pay for. Thanks for the free video! I rolled my Maui Cruiser when I was 18. If you do it rite people can't tell. It looks like a matt finish. This car looked presentable for sure, just make sure you have 100% coverage.

Thin the paint and roller in ONE direction, overlap by 50%, and use a VERY light tough (weight of the roller ONLY). Finally, go SLOW MAX 1" / second. Four coats, then finish with 800, then 1500 grit, buff with cutting paste. Cant tell it wasnt sprayed.

hint: take a wide (damp/dry) soft brush - and long stroke over the rolled wet layer. and /also : multiple coats. Most of the work is already done w the masking and sanding!
