How To NOT BE EXHAUSTED Swimming Butterfly
If you’re exhausted after just 25 meters of butterfly, there’s a good chance you need to work on your timing and rhythm!
Butterfly is the most difficult stroke to learn, not only from a technical perspective, but also from a strength perspective. We recommend learning it last and focusing on the other strokes first. But if you’re ready to take on butterfly, check out two of our favorite drills to help you perfect your timing and swim faster.

Such a difficult stroke
I tried butterfly for the first time today. I swallowed a ton of water for the first time in over a year. Its super hard.

It's definitely one of the toughest swim skills to master! We hope this video series can help :)

It also requires much more strength than the other strokes. Be patient and keep training.

this video probably never told you this, but you could probably blow bubbles while swimming so water doesn't get in your nose and mouth
thanks for the vid! Ive been training to do butterfly better since i want to be able to do a 100 butterfly without getting that tired during my next swim meet!
Very good , gotta try again tomorrow. Appreciate that.

@@myswimpro I will.
Just my first time to swim butterfly but idk why it became my most favorite strokes of all swimming styles-.-
Thanks for the tips. I always wondered how to get the timing right and it’s the first time I see this alternating fly and breast drill. I can’t wait to try and I really expect some improvement as I am a breastroker and feel really at ease on my timing in this stroke.

It's a good drill. I learned about it, years ago, from another channel. When I did it for the first at the gym, the coach made a surprised/funny comment about it. I think she didn't know about that drill. It's good for beginners and for when you get tired.

@@seiti1 I think the timing is fine but I need more strength in my shoulders now (and flexibility) to be able to pull out well my arms and throw them ahead and move smoothly.

@@williamrasoanaivo5381 I see. I'm improving that by practicing. The more I swim butterfly, the more I improve. I'd probably improve more by doing strength training at the gym, but I don't like it. If your aim is to improve your butterfly and you're struggling too much/finding it too heavy (I'm not sure if that's the case), you could practice butterfly with fins. Just don't do breaststroke kicks with fins (the coach explained to me that it's bad for your knees). Btw, I'm not a coach, I'm an enthusiast and sharing my knowledge.
Whats the brand of ur goggles?
Hi. Please help. When I do the drills I seem to be doing well. But when I am now doing full stroke at a sprint I am super slow and then is not much forward momentum.
I have a swim meet next week and I'm swimming 50 and 100 butterfly, this vid helped me a lot thanks!!

Great advise from pretty coach 😍 😍
Would you say these drills are appropriate for 9-11 year old first time competition level swimmers?
Please add to Turkish subtitles❣️
Hello, I need advice - I improved butterfly a lot, I think all movements are good, rhythm, I can swim it slow, fast, feels great. But I have issue that I cannot come to some equilibrium/pace that I can maintain longer (150m+), even when swimming as slow as possible . I am in good cardio shape, but when it comes to butterfly, each breath, I feel deficit, like I need more oxygen or I do not let enough air out. Seems like breathing window is short. Do you let all air out before mouth comes out of water and you just breath in right away? It piles up and I have to switch to swim freestyle after 100-150m to normalize oxygen need. Not sure if I am not efficient enough, or I just do not breath correctly. Because as soon as I start to breath as I swim freestyle, I recover and feel more air flow - even though I keep swimming fast, I can keep going indefinitely with freestyle.

It seems like your lung capacity is small. I used to have that too until I did pranayama. It is a type of breathing yoga to increase the air allowed in your lungs. Also to answer your question, let all the air out of your lungs before you come up to breath, and take in as much as you can with your mouth. When you go back in, if you are breathing per every stroke, immediately start to breathe out. Otherwise, breathe until you get to the last stroke until you come up for air again.

@@andyCubes-wi5ud thanks, I practiced more, seems I need to breath out faster and little earlier as you said, because I do not let all the air out in time... Getting better. I recover very quickly, even after butterfly sprint of 50-75m, I breath easily. Just need to get enough air in that short breathing window….and I adjusted head position to be more down/neutral, so mouth just barely comes out of water….similar to freestyle, just straight. Small details make difference… so fun to improve little bit each time. Lung capacity, not sure, but cardio/recovery is always easy for me, running, swimming, sprinting…
I have a 2 fly tmr morning 😫
Well, swimming the fly was much easier 50 years ago..... I liken it to a body wave, which is a crack the whip type action. It is not a leather type of whip action, but more like a piece of spring steel for transferring energy from one end of the body to the other. So, a steel ruler, arches up in front/throwing arms forward, then chest down, hips following, and then feet whipping down, and back up.

That's a great analogy!
bro the thumbnail why is he dying 💀
I recall in '05, a young lad by the name of Ramone decided for some cockamamie reason for the 500m to do it via Butterfly. He was the only one in the pool swimming the 500m at the meet, even our team cheered for him. He was tired but his form barely faltered. Much respect. 😊
hi kaylie!! im a swimmer from philippines and your my idol when it comes to swimming and also i have a crush on you, i hope u notice this comment :>
"Butterfly stroke is useless, nobody should be swimming like this" That's what I thought first when I was learning the technique, and still to this day😅😢
